“Best to stay in Banos!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We came, we saw and we enjoyed it!
Beautifull kolonial house.
Very nice couple who runs the place. All the attention to the guests.
Good price. Very good breakfast.
All the help you could need. This was a real holiday location to us.

Room Tip: Rooms are cleaned every day! Just 6 rooms.

The manager who was running this hotel earlier this year and who did the outdoor cookouts is no longer there - actually, he absconded with my money and there was no record of my reservation. However, Lorenzo, who's now running the place, gave us a nice rate and was very helpful throughout. If you want to stay within walking distance of town, this is probably the best place. It's clean and friendly and in a great location to the public baths. Check out the tapestry store next door; very good work. The open-air steak place a few doors away was also great.

Room Tip: The waterfall view rooms are more noisy and have less light than the rooms across the hall.

We had a group of 10 that stayed at Casa del Abuelo, Banos for 2 nights in Jan-11. We basically rented all the rooms so it felt like home. Our stay definitely exceeded our expectations. Yes, the hotel needs some remodeling/updating work. But it has a funky, homeyness that we all enjoyed. The owners and staff were outstanding.

Rooms were 'arty', unique rooms each with there own decor. Average size, a bit run down but we slept well. Bathrooms were small, adequate, but need updating. The public spaces: living room, porch, hammocks were very comfortable.

The food (breakfast and dinner) was outstanding. The hotel chef did a great job in terms of food preparation, food quality, and presentation. All the food was fresh and healthy. We also had some great house wines.

So if you are a 'Holiday Inn' type traveler, the Casa del Abuelo is not for you. But if you are looking for a fun, funky hotel experience with great hosts stay here. Take your meals at Casa del Abuelo - you won't be disappointed

I stayed here with my girlfriend for several days. The room was simple but well-thought out, while the downstairs porch, garden, and tiny outdoor restaurant/bar are picturesque. I fell in love with this place every breakfast and dinner I had there. The staff and owners are very hospitable, giving it a familiar atmosphere. An absolutely fantastic time.

This was one of the places we had on our tour through Ecuador which made it an experience on itself.
Rooms and shower average both in size and luxury, however the casa was excelent. Creating a fairytale like feeling, the way the owner makes you feel a special guest and having your dinner served by the chefs was making it worth double
This is one of THE places you should have been !!

It is a nice hotel and worth the price of 47$ per Person per night.
You will find nice painted walls and a clean room. The bed I slept in was confortable.
The breakfast was great. Everything is fresh (juice, bread, yam).
BUT the best thing was the dinner (20$ per Person). Good healthy food which you normaly get at a four star restaurant and spend lots of money on elsewhere.
The best hotel we stayed at in Ecuador!
The only thing that I dislike was the rooster next door which woke me up around 4 am.
Thanks again to Andres and his family. Very good place!

Stayed for two nights which is enough to see Banos unless you plan outdoor adventure, ie. hiking, biking, horseback riding, bungee jumping, etc. The hotel itslelf is a 1940's vintage, former summer home. The owners are in the process of updating the rooms and baths. As is, the rooms are basic but comfortable. The room wall have been painted with interesting murals and there is art hanging in the common areas. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price and both meals are first class. The menues vary daily and they will accomodate special diets. Dinner is prepared in the outside dining area on an open wood fired grill as you wait and watch. (There is also an inside dining room). The four course meals are made with local food but prepared with the flair of a french chef.
The young owner speaks excellent english and is pleasant, knowledgable and always available. The owner and the meals make this place special. You couldn't ask for more.
