“Great view and an attentive staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

I spent four days at this hotel and really enjoyed my stay. I've got a Beagle channel view room which I highly recommend. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was better than I expected. It is situated outside the city but they have a shuttle that leaves almost every hour.

Room Tip: It is worth paying a little more for a Beagle Channel view room

We stayed two nights March 10th & 11th 2014

Like most people, we stopped over in Ushuaia on our way to somewhere else; surprising really, as Ushuaia is sometimes billed as “the End of the World” or at least “the Southernmost City in the World.”

However, they DO have this very good hotel; it is perfect for people to relax in either before or after a sea journey around Cape Horn and on to Punta Arenas, or further south to the Antarctic.

The public rooms are big and spacious, with views overlooking the Beagle Channel that are inspirational. If the weather is fine, the mountains of Chile loom large over on the other side; if it’s raining and the clouds are low, then sit back with a drink on one of the comfortable chairs or sofas and think yourself lucky to be warm and dry in this lovely spot.

Our room was very clean and comfortable, it was quiet, and we slept well and there were no issues with fixtures or fittings. Most people, predictably, recommend the rooms that face the Beagle Channel, and your view from there will be great, but in our case, we chose a “Mountain View” room (the other ones), we were only staying for two nights and were arriving late.

The next morning we would be out early on the all-day 4x4 tour to the Fagnano & Escondido Lakes, and the next day we were off to check in with the Stella Australis. In other words we would only be in our room for sleeping! When we would be eating or drinking, we would get the benefit of the view from those large picture windows. I don’t know what the price difference is for a Beagle Channel view, but, contrary to my normal inclination, we chose the Mountain View room for these reasons and were completely satisfied.

We enjoyed the breakfasts, normal buffet style; we don’t often go for much cooked stuff at breakfast so we didn’t try the scrambled eggs etc. but we had all we needed. We were lucky I guess that there were no large groups in at the time we were there, that might have been a little hectic, as it was, we enjoyed leisurely breakfasts and the great view.

The food and service at dinner was very good, we were hoping to have King Crab but they were out! A disappointment, but we made up for it as we continued our odyssey through Argentina & Patagonian Chile.

I would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here before and after a cruise to Antarctica. The hotel has a beautiful outlook and would highly recommend a Beagle channel view room. Rooms are a little tired but clean and comfortable. The restaurant coped well with the large group of people. The evening meals were good and the buffet breakfast was adequate. The hotel staff were all friendly and helpful. No complaints and would stay here again.

Los Caquenes is known as the best Hotel and SPA in Ushuaia. It's a nice hotel and has a wonderful view of the Beagle Channel. The service is good and the staff is very gentle. The installations are comfortable, however, show signs of age, specially the SPA. I expected more from a hotel of its category. The prices are high. The hotel is not located in the town of Ushuaia, which is great since the town is chaotic.

Room Tip: If possible, choose the rooms which have view to the Beagle Chanel.

We've been there end of January. The weather was nice, and we had a room facing the Beagle channel, separated by only ten meters of grass, a virtual paradise at the end of the world. The breakfast was excellent, the spa a little disappointing.

Los Cauquenes is perched on the edge of the Beagle Channel with the mountains of Chile in the background, the perfect place to sit back and relax. Modern and Eco-aware, the hotel is located outside of the busy town of Ushuaia, Argentina. The rooms are rustic, modern and very comfortable. The staff is warm and welcoming. The restaurant is excellent. Ditto the bar. We spent only one night here before a Patagonian cruise, but I could have spent a week watching the light change on the water. The views are stupendous.

I cannot see why you would spend a great deal of time in Ushuaia unless you were going to the Port or to Tierra de Fuego , but this is a pleasant BOP chain hotel. Staff were generally very helpful and professional. We had a bookend stay before and after an Antarctic Peninsula cruise like most visitors I guess. For the location, internet was fine if needed.

The town itself is a bit grim, but the location here is much better, if a bit out of the way.

Breakfast was busy (we were part of a large group) and dinner was good but unremarkable.
Good wine list, and coffee only Nespresso, which was better than most we had in Argentina.

We walked into town once - its about 6km and its not all that scenic, but you can do it easily.

I suspect one of the city hotels may be less luxurious but more interesting.

We really were there for a short time with a large group, but I imagine with the good professional staff, nice grounds and location a stay could be memorable.

Room Tip: Try for the odd numbered rooms with the Beagle Channel View
