“The feet in the channel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

We've been there end of January. The weather was nice, and we had a room facing the Beagle channel, separated by only ten meters of grass, a virtual paradise at the end of the world. The breakfast was excellent, the spa a little disappointing.

Los Cauquenes is perched on the edge of the Beagle Channel with the mountains of Chile in the background, the perfect place to sit back and relax. Modern and Eco-aware, the hotel is located outside of the busy town of Ushuaia, Argentina. The rooms are rustic, modern and very comfortable. The staff is warm and welcoming. The restaurant is excellent. Ditto the bar. We spent only one night here before a Patagonian cruise, but I could have spent a week watching the light change on the water. The views are stupendous.

I cannot see why you would spend a great deal of time in Ushuaia unless you were going to the Port or to Tierra de Fuego , but this is a pleasant BOP chain hotel. Staff were generally very helpful and professional. We had a bookend stay before and after an Antarctic Peninsula cruise like most visitors I guess. For the location, internet was fine if needed.

The town itself is a bit grim, but the location here is much better, if a bit out of the way.

Breakfast was busy (we were part of a large group) and dinner was good but unremarkable.
Good wine list, and coffee only Nespresso, which was better than most we had in Argentina.

We walked into town once - its about 6km and its not all that scenic, but you can do it easily.

I suspect one of the city hotels may be less luxurious but more interesting.

We really were there for a short time with a large group, but I imagine with the good professional staff, nice grounds and location a stay could be memorable.

Room Tip: Try for the odd numbered rooms with the Beagle Channel View

We absolutely loved our stay at this Hotel. The views are breathtaking, the Hotel has very nice common areas, a beautiful bar with a fireplace and very nice rooms (not luxurious but very nice). The spa is not huge but it's a good spot to relax after the tours.
We travelled with our teenage soons and they also agree that this Hotel should be rated as excellent.
The Hotel is not located in the town center. However, it has a shuttle that can get you to town easily. You can also call a cab and it takes 5 minutes.
We dined at the Hotel once and the food was delicious. Breakfast is also very good. They bake their own cookies and we used to take them to our tours.
Attentive staff.

Room Tip: If you can, get a room with a (breathtaking) view.

Spent 3 nights before embarking on an Antarctic expedition. Hotel is situated overlooking the Beagle Channel, the views are breathtaking... although 4 or 5 kilometres from downtown a regularly scheduled shuttle is available for those wanting to have dinner or just visit the heart of Ushuaia. All things considered, if circumstances find you in the capital of Tierra del Fuego this is probably the best bet. Modern, clean and very friendly. Important note however, tends to be fully booked, make reservations well ahead of time to be sure of availability!

Stayed here as first night on land after sailing as crew on a Tall Sailing Ship 6,500 miles in 8 weeks across the South Pacific / Southern Ocean and around Cape Horn. No pressure there then for a enjoyable stay!

It was simply wonderful. Booked well in advance and prepaid and was worried things would go wrong being out of contact for long. I needed have worried. On arrival, was given a glass of bubbly while signing for the room. Got a great photo, taken by the receptionist, of me standing at the reception desk in full sailing "oilies", drinking bubbly!

Room was a beagle view room and the room was huge, with opening windows and high open room up to the exposed roof beams. Bed was very comfortable and I was asleep later that night to the sound of waves splashing onto the private pebble beach just below my room and fresh air wafting in from the mountains.

Food - went straight from reception/room to restaurant, joined friends and had a wonderful meal for lunch. With more celebration bubbly, the bill was about £20 a head and the menu was varied. The staff were extremely friendly and wanted to practice their English. In return, we had a laugh about my appalling attempts at Spanish. Really set the meal off well!

For evening meal, decided to enjoy the restaurant again instead of going out to town. The menu was the same, meaning we could try the ones we didn't choose for lunch. At no point were we hurried and the staff had time to make conversation frequently. Really good view from the table out over the Beagle Channel

To get from the port to the hotel, we took a taxi instead of the shuttle and this cost 50pesos or so (about £5 or £7, though exchange rates were a little unsettled to say the least!) It oook about 15 minutes. next morning for the flight home, the hotel had the taxi waiting for us and we arrived in great time.

Best compliment I can pay this hotel is to say thank you to all the team there - your hard work and excellent customer service are very much appreciated and we felt very, very welcome.

Room Tip: worth a little bit more for the Beagle view and large windows. (my two friends in mountain rooms spe...

This hotel was a good choice if you have to spend a night in Ushuaia.
We had to change our room from one next to the elevator and stairs to a quiet one on the 3rd floor, this was no problem with the receptionist who was very helpful.
We were disappointed by the food at dinner after good reviews. Breakfast was good.
A plus point was we could not join the cruise boat until 5pm and we could stay in the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor with high ceiling.
