I had not really thoguht much about taking a trip on the Beagle Channel but decided to take a 2.5hr boat trip which was great. You get to go around the lighthouse that is where the Atlantic and Pacific oceans meet, see seals, Cormorans, and penguins: although not in September as they are breeding or something. The views back to the mountain range and the town of Ushuaia are great. It is also fantastic to be at sea level and looking at snow covered mountains rising so high above you. It does feel the end of the earth..next stop Antarctica.

Amazing! Go out and see the wildlife! Brought tears to my eyes! The Sea Lion colonies are incredible...like living a National Geographic shoot. The sound of the Sea Lions is haunting!

“A spectacular waterway.....”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

This majestic strait is in the archipelago island chain of Tierra del Fuego that separates one large island here with many smaller islands - naturalist Charles Darwin travelled through this waterway in 1831 so the channel is named after his ship, the Beagle. We were lucky to cruise through this long navigable area that forms a border between Chile and Argentina - our stop was at the world’s southern most settlement – Ushuaia.

The water has no deep green colour found on the Pacific side, more an iron grey colour, however what really stands out here are some impressive glaciers in 'Glacier Alley' - Alemania, Italia and Holanda Glaciers. Above the often low hanging cloud is a line of snow capped mountains and if you have a sunny day it may remind you of that other remote glacial region called Alaska – still in two minds though which one is more beautiful!

The area is famous for wildlife such as sea lions and cormorant colonies so there are tour boats from Ushuaia that sail to their natural habitats. After rounding Cape Horn (we had a good crossing) the sheltered waters of this channel made it even more comfortable to view the scenery and look for sea life. Not for nothing is it hailed as one of the most spectacular areas on the planet - we were so lucky to have sailed and walked along its shores!

Enjoy your experience!

“Nice”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

I did the boat tour in a catamaran' and it was very nice. Not excellent or as I expected. Not so much more to see. Should I had been further, or during the summer, it could have been as great as most say.

“Fantastic boat ride”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We arrived ushuaia around 1 pm sunday, the hotel receptionist was kind enough to book us a boat tour at beagle channel at 3 pm. The ride takes three hours and costs 300 pesos. We were glad we did it as it was very interesting. The boat is big enough, two floors( I would not recommend small boats for safety reasons as the ocean was high with winds and rain). The boat sails at the ocean with the aforementioned weather which makes the trip advantageous and more interesting than any other boat rides we did before. It slows down close to two small islands inhabited by very nice birds and sea animals( I do not know their exact names in English), so we had a good chance to take many photos and videos. The boat was supposed to stop at another island where we were going to walk around for 20 minutes, but because of weather conditions, the captain cancelled it. finally the boat got close and moved around the famous faro del fin del mundo, the end of the world light house. Very interesting, I highly recommend this tour.
