“Tranquility & Seals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

What more could one ask for than a place that has such absolute tranquility and then beautiful seals frolicking just metres away from you. I would have love more time to spend on the Channel - oh well, next time. Take a boat out in the morning and you will come home with toooo many photos, but hey, that's what its all about.

“A must in Ushuaia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

Priority tour to do. You will see abundance of wildlife, seals condors and if your very lucky, killer whales. Go with Patagonia adventure and they will take you for a small walk on one of the small islands in the channel.

“Definitely do it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

We spent 300 pesos with Patagonia adventures down on the dock to take a 4 hr tour in their 25 person boats. Got right up to the sea lions, cormorants, etc. for great viewing and photography. Tomas is fluent in English and another guide in French. Good fun all around.

“Awesome Choice for a Half-Day Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013

A must-do if you're in Ushuaia. Patagonia itself beautiful and Ushuaia is possibly the crowning gem of Patagonia. Many people skip over Ushuaia because of its remoteness, mistakenly believing that only Antarctica travelers visit this small port side town. How wrong they are.

We boarded a boat operated by Patagonia Adventure Explorer with fifteen or so other tourists from the Ushuaia pier (opposite the tourist office where you can get a nice Ushuaia chop for your passport) after paying a small port entrance tax.

The boat trip itself is about 4 hours and features some of the most stunning marine landscapes, flora and fauna we've ever seen. Hundreds of sea lions, penguins, seals, sea gulls and more frolic in the waters of the Beagle Channel and a good tour operator will carefully navigate the boat as close to the sea animals as possible, giving you ample time to photograph and observe them. Our guide also spend a good amount of time bringing us through the history, culture and biodiversity of the Tierra del Fuego area and had us poring over nautical maps and old photographs of the native people. I can't think of a more perfect way to spend the morning.

After viewing the fauna, you get to get up close to the flora. The tour stops for a short hike at a small island just off the port, where the guide points out the calafate and chaufa berries and other native plants. You get amazing panoramas from the top of this small island. On the boat tour, you also get to see the huge ships heading out to Antarctica. It's quite a sight.

Our tour operator also served a morning tea of biscuits and hot beverages, a welcome sight after having stood in the cold on the exterior deck for an hour.

“must see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013

Beagle Channel is the ‘must do’ in Ushuaia. Although the trip to the penguin-island is long, it is worth it. On the boat-trip you see several unique birds, sea lions, seals etc. In addition the trip offers a nice view from the Channel at Ushuaia en the surrounding mountain scenery.
