We left it for the last day, since our flight was in the afternoon. Enjoyed the guided tour and also the time on our own. Not too big. Do not miss the reproduction of the actual Faro del Fin del Mundo.

Now part of the Navy, this former prison has been turned into a museum. Some of it has been restore, some not. Ushuaia doesn't hide from it's history. Worth the visit.

We tried to join a guided visit but the crowd was so big we could hardly listen to the guide so we decided to walk around. Each wing host different collection of objects. There are very varied things displayed in each of what used to be a cell. Themes such as immigration to Ushuaia, geology, ships. One whole wing is a souvenir shop and and another hosts a maritime art collection. The most interesting Wong for us was the one that has been kept unrestored and were you can appreciate what the prison actually looked like when it was in use.

The prison was a very important part of the development of Ushuaia at the beginning of the 20th century. The museum explains it very well. Other parts of the museum are about Antarctica and Marine.

Parts of the museum were closed when we were there but we were able to spend a few hours investigating the penal colony origins of the city as well as its role in ancient maritime history and Antarctic exploration.
