“Nice green valley”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

It is a nice green valley with a river, lakes and forests. But other than that not very interesting. The train ride is interesting, especially the steam locomotives and narrow railway lines.

“Car and Tour Not Necessary to see National Park”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

No need to take a tour or have a car to Tierra del Fuego National Park. Take a bus that is really like an oversize van (we took the company "Sol") from the bus area (Juana Fadul and Maipu Avenue) in Ushuaia. Takes nearly an hour one way. We left at 9 am Christmas Day and returned with the 3 pm return bus. A wonderful time.
Cost for the bus/van is 100 ARS or US$20 round trip per person.
Cost for the National Park is 85 ARS per person; no US$ accepted. You will get a trail map at time of entry.
The bus has designated drop off/pick-up points and times. A popular trail starts at the Pier and is 8 km of coastal and forest trail. We went to the end of Rt. 3 of the Pan American Highway where there is a famous sign and short boardwalk to the end. From there we took many hikes seeing peatbogs, beaver lodges and destruction by them, Andes of Chile, Lapataia Bay, small Black Lake, Green Lake, and then walked to Laco (Lake) Roco. Just before getting there is the Alakush Visitor Center--a big, new-looking building on the right side of the road opposite Lapatala River before Laco Roco. In this Visitor Center is a large cafeteria, observation tower overlooking the River, very worthwhile exhibit of the original natives: the Yamanas, good geology/geography/anthropology exhibits about the area, bathrooms, and here you can have your passport stamped from the end of the world by a friendly limited-English speaking information person. Further up the road at Laco Roco is a large picnic area as well as a coffeehouse. Here is also a bus pick-up point.

“Beautiful park, expensive bus”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We did the coastal trail and five of the six mini trails around Lapataia. They were well marked and great to walk along, with beautiful scenery.

The only thing that annoyed us was the cost of the bus to get there. It`s only about 12km from town, so we think this was the most expensive bus we have ever taken cost per km anywhere in the world. In some countries you can get a 10 hour bus ride for less.

Used a private driver for the day, and spent the morning seeing the highlights of the park. Serious natural beauty..everything from the snw capped mountains reflections in the lakes, the bird life, especially the black headed Swansthe Peat bogs, the trees, heavy with mistletoe, truly beautiful. did send a postcard from the end of the world..just wish I could have spent more time..incredible place for campers and backpackers!!!

“A must do!!!!!!”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Try doing more Treks then a bus tour because the beauty is in the walking and being outside!!!! Wear some bug spray, there's quite a few mosquitoes! It gets hot in some places and cold in others. Pack a snack! It's a long day. The train is over rated and super super slow!!!!!
