Lovely place to stay and the staff were excellent offering great suggestions for restaurants etc. It's 10-15 downhill into the main town but they do offer a free taxi at night...if you call the hotel and they arrange it.

Our 3 night stay at this small hotel was very pleasant. A spacious, comfortable room awaited our return after a day of sightseeing in this simply stunning part of the world. Breakfast was a feast. The staff were all very polite and helpful. Only a couple of grumbles... Our packed lunches were not great and nor did the hotel get our order right. The hotel is located outside of the town. The view from our room was marred by the washing line of a neighbouring house. Grumbles aside, would definitely recommend this hotel.

Spent 3 nights here in December 2012.

Room was too hot and the window was huge so I didn't like opening it whilst sleeping.

Bed and room spacious and comfortable but most people must collapse into bed after a long day's activities.

We booked 2 packed lunches and even though we have large appetites 1 would have been enough - really great value for money.

Breakfast spread was huge - all sorts available including loads of cakes which was a bit overbearing after a huge steak dinner with wine the previous night!

10 - 15 min walk into town, up a hill so brace yourself but worth it for the views.

Staff seemed like they were all seasonal workers but were all very friendly and they looked after our bags on the day we checked out which we appreciated.

Good choice for an expensive touristy town.

We stayed here two different times during our trip and really enjoyed it. The service/concierge was excellent and helpful. They had a free shuttle within the city. Breakfast was tasty. Also the rooms were always clean and VERY cozy which is just what we needed after a day out in the cold. Would definitely recommend this place highly.

Even if the location is a little bit far from the city center and the road is quite dusty (when you decide for the walk to the city center that takes about 10 to 15 minuts) but it is worth it. The view out of the window to the Lago Argentino is very nice and the shuttle provided by the hotel works fine (even if it might have been also because we were there in low season and the hotel was not fully booked). Breakfast is excellent (the best we experienced during our stay in Argentina).
They can arrange the trips for you and it is very convenient. But if you do it by yourself in the agency offices (Hielo y Adventura,Todos glacieres) in the city center you can pay by card, via hotel you have to pay in cash. And it is quite annoying experience to get cash there, ATM usually gives you only 1000 pesos (maximum 2000 when do 2 withdrawals) when using credit card you will be charged some extra fee and you very likely will have to queue in front of the ATM for some time.

Room Tip: We were very satisfied with the room in the reception building because you do not have to walk outsi...

We arrived in El Calefate and drove around trying to find the hotel. As we started to go further up the hills it didn't look like a tourist area, but then we arrived. WOW.
What a great hotel in regards to its position being up higher than most. You look out your window and see an amazing view of the lake and snow capped mountains.
The staff were really friendly and they really tried to help you in any way they could, including giving us some Gluten free biscuits at breakfast.
The rooms were large as was the bed, but the jewel in the crown is the spa bath. Stay there if you can.

We had a very pleasant stay at La Cantera, and want to thank the team for the great hospitality. Everyone was very helpful and friendly, helping us with transport issues and providing breakfast for our 5.30am departure. We stayed for 2 nights, and recommend having dinner at the hotel once as food and service are very nice, and you can enjoy the sunset view from the deck.
