“An unusual hotel style, but quite pleasant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

First impressions are said to be all important and we didn't start off well. We were allocated a corner room when we had ordered and paid for a corner suite - we specifically requested the suite having seen the rooms on the hotel's own web site. When this was raised with the officious (as opposed to professional) management they started by claiming they were the same thing until I showed them the photos on their own site, at which time they reluctantly agreed that we would move. As the only suite available needed to be cleaned, we were asked to wait and they would call us when it was ready - we rang them after about 90 minutes and eventually we moved after waiting around for two hours. No apology was ever offered for what was really a try on!

Once we settled things began to improve. Aside from management, the staff were all very attentive and ever willing to assist. Staff at the Clubhouse were especially good, with Mateus (?) worthy of special mention. Breakfast was OK, without being as good as some mention on this site. We dined in the gourmet restaurant and were surprised at how expensive it was - food was good and the service was great as we were one of only two couples there. We dined at the Clubhouse on our last of three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the food, the wine and the usual excellent service. The NYE dinner on our first night (again in the Clubhouse) was expensive but particularly good - it's a shame they only do this style of thing for special events!

So, the suite we had was large as we wanted and rather old fashioned, which is fine. The furnishings are of good quality, although the excessively heavy drapes are a bit over the top. The property itself is quite large and without a map can be a bit of a challenge for a day or so. Not too far from the town centre, the hotel is nice and quiet, which is a real plus.

Room Tip: The suites are worth the extra - we (eventually) had a corner suite in Roca and it was quite good an...

We stayed 3 days and the suite we stayed was fabulous. The staff were helpful and the spa was excellent and we both had a massage which was very good value. Its a few hundred yards out of town but very walkable.. or you can borrow their not very grand bikes. We did and visited the wonderful bird sanctuary just down the road abot a mile away.
Not cheap but worth the money

Room Tip: The rooms are spread over quite a wide area so ask for one near the breakfast area or spa... but you...

We had a very nice stay at Los Sauces. The room was large and well appointed, and very clean. The included breakfast was sufficient and tasty. The location does not provide a beautiful view, but it is close enough to the main part of town to walk and explore. The staff was quite friendly and interested in making our stay comfortable (except for one golf cart driver who drove fast and made us leave the walking paths as we were walking). We would return there.

Room Tip: We had the first room, far from the breakfast clubhouse. If you are not interested in walking, ask f...

This hotel is extraordinary. We had a suite, which was surely big enough for all four of us, but it was just for the two of us. Artwork everywhere is so stunning that I would love to have lots of it in my home. The Clubhouse, where we had breakfast everyday and dinner at the Parrilla, was divine. Everiyone there gave us truly PERFECT SERVICE. It was a treat.

Room Tip: Not sure. Our suites were in El Bosque, and they were beyond huge and stunning!

We stayed for 3 nights in Casa Los Sauces the end of November 2012. We prebooked a cornersuite in one of the separate buildings. Our room was huge, We had a sitting area, big bed, very large bathroom and separate toilet. The rooms are spotless and very well decorated. I think our housekeeper was probably the best of the resort because she could not stand vests or shoes lying around, she immediately put everything in the closet. Because some of the rooms are a little further from the entrance of the resort and of the reception, you can always call reception and then someone comes with a golf buggy to pick you up.

Wifi is provided free of charge of course and works very good.

Also the grounds of the whole resort are very well maintained and there are always some lovely birds on the lawns.

Breakfast is served in the clubhouse, which provides quite an elegant setting. The selection of food was super. Different kinds of bread, fruit, cereal, meat....
The choice in hot foods was limited.

The hotel is only a short walk away from main street, where all the shops and restaurants are.

After our big ice trekking we also got to enjoy the spa at the hotel and I must say it was heavenly. There is a heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, free coffee and tea, gym....

We also had dinner in the gourmet restaurant. The food was very good and good portions but rather expensive. Nevertheless worth it.

Los Sauces, is definetely one of the best hotels in El Calafate.

Me and my wife stayed here for two nights in November 2012. The resort is divided into a number of separate buildings – reception/restaurant, clubhouse, spa, and rooms (which are divided into 4 buildings). We had booked a standard room, and were allocated a room in the building furthest away. We were taken there by golf buggy after check in, and these are always available upon request, but for the rest of our stay we just walked the short distance to/from the reception.

Our particular building had a total of 10 guest rooms, with a common lounge and dining area. Entering the building really felt like entering someone’s home. We could see signs of other guests in our building, but we hardly ever bumped into anyone. The room was lovely, extremely spacious, with a traditional look, and stone bathrooms including a separately housed toilet. It is odd that the standard (and most common) type of room only comes in a twin bed format. Each bed was the size of a small double bed, which can accommodate two adults, but it may be a smaller size than you are used to. We shared one bed and had no issues. Wifi is provided free of charge and it worked well.

The whole resort has an upmarket feel and appears to be immaculately maintained. This is most evident when walking around the hotel grounds, but extends to the rooms as well. As an example, when walking to the reception, we actually saw a cleaner sweeping the ceilings of a terrace area outside one of the buildings!

Breakfast is served in the clubhouse, which provides quite an elegant setting. The selection of food was decent, although probably not as much as expected. In particular, the hot food selection was quite limited (just scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes).

We had some issues with noise levels from a folk festival that was taking place very close to the hotel. You could hear the music from the festival quite clearly in the room. It did stop before midnight however. It seemed to be quite a big event (for El Calafate standards!), I’m not sure how often such types of events take place.

It is a short and easy 10 minute walk to the main road, which is lined with shops/restaurants. We had a very busy schedule in El Calafate, and as a result did not spend much time in the hotel, and were not able to visit the spa or have lunch/dinner at the restaurants. This was a shame, as the time we did spend at the hotel was very enjoyable. It certainly exceeded my expectations and I would happily return here in the future. It felt like the photos available online didn’t really do this place justice.

TIP: shop around for the best rates. I usually prefer to book directly with a hotel, but in this case I found significantly cheaper rates through other travel websites. The rates also seemed to move around frequently. I managed to get a rate of almost half of the rate on the hotel’s own website (although I think I was lucky, as this rate was only around for a few days before disappearing).

A very homely hotel with a lovely restaurant and great staff. The spa facilities look great although I didn't use them. The rooms were big and well presented. Free wifi. The only downside to this hotel is that it does not have views of the lake or mountains however there is plently of time to see these wonders on the numerous tours available. The town is very quaint and is about a 10min walk from the hotel
