Young and professional staff in this new hotel, overlooking the city. We had a very large room, with a magnificient view of Lago Argentino and mountains all around. Fabulous bathroom in this very imaginative suite, very well equiped. The hotel inside architecture is also quite interesting, with large spaces. The breakfast was very good, too. Well, the place to stay in El Calafate.

Room Tip: Choose suite 206

I stayed in this very trendy hotel when I went to El Calafate with my parents in December, 2008, and decided to stay there again if I ever went back. Four years later, I visited El Calafate again with my husband and made a must to stay in Esplendor El Calafate (made online reservations directly with them, booking the Suite room instead of the Concept because they had a big tub in the room). My travel agent advised against booking directly with them but I thought that would be safe and Esplendor would honor the reservations.
The day we were checking in, front desk staff tell us that there was a mistake and we had to stay one night in the Concept room and the other 4 nights in the Suite room, instead of 5 nights in the Suite. Esplendor gave us a dinner voucher without alcoholic beverages as a way to make up for their mistake- mind you, there are many different options for dinner in the city and I really was not planning to dine at the hotel restaurant.
The following day, we had to wake up at 430am and repack for check out, then rush out for breakfast and be ready for our excursion - pick up time was 7am! Not fun, missed some rest worrying about the next day! (The staff took charge and checked us in to the Suite room as we were going to be out all day long).
Two days later, the Suite room's heating system is down and we are freezing in the bedroom. Option 1: more blankets, option 2: checking out and checking in to another Suite room. We went for option 2 and stayed another 2 nights in another room.
Other problems: the pillows were not fresh and you could smell other people's scent/sweat - really disgusting; the elevator was not functioning smoothly; the chairs were wobbly in the restaurant; not enough outlet adaptors like other hotels - not the experience I was looking for, extremely disappointed...
End result of negotiations: Paid 3 nights for a Concept room and 2 nights for a Suite room. Used the dinner voucher the night the heating system went down.
Never saw the management, front desk staff was trying to handle the best way they could, I really felt sorry for them.

This is a chic, funky sort of hotel. We stayed in it twice, for one night each time. The rooms are clean and stylish and all you need for an overnight stay. The staff were all helpful and courteous.
We ate in the hotel on both occasions, because we were quite late checking in, and the restaurant was really quite good.

We really enjoyed this hotel. It has a great location close to the downtown but sits high on a hill so the views of Lago Argentino and the town are excellent. The decor is funky but very cool. The food was excellent. The breakfasts were some of the best we experienced in Argentina and we had one late supper which was delicious. The restaurant has an excellent vino de casa-a Malbec of course! They packed a picnic lunch for us one day which was very tasty and adequate. The bartenders make excellent cocktails...something we had missed in Argentina with the focus on wine.

Our room was quite warm and the wind kept blowing our windows closed (there is no air conditioning), but we fashioned a solution with some cord and were able to enjoy the cool evening air. You can also ask for a fan. The front desk staff are professional but reserved. Free WIFI was reliable.

We enjoyed our visit to Laguna Nimez, a bird sanctuary located 15 minutes (walking) from the hotel. We visited during springtime, so the birds were very active and such a variety to see. We also visited Nebepo Aike, an estancia (working ranch) near the Perito Moreno Glacier. It was a long but beautiful drive there and we had a lovely lamb dinner cooked in the classic parilla style. Our favorite outing was to the Horninta Peninsula near Estancia Cristina. This required an hour long boat ride on Lago Argentino and then an easy 15 km walk. When we stopped for lunch we had a beautiful view of the Upsala glacier.

We enjoyed eating at La Lechuza and Rick's Parilla. We also found a little hole-in-the-wall called La Fonda which had decent food at very reasonable prices. La Fonda is located on a side street just off the main street in El Calafate. We did not enjoy our meal at La Marca, although the price was reasonable.

Room Tip: Upper floors lessen street noise from below when you open your windows

No question about it, the hotel (rooms, hallways, spa, exterior) is very modern and stylish. Service is also professional, but not as friendly and welcoming as one might expect. You will be helped with what you ask for, but you don't easily get anything extra. We got this feeling also from many other services in El Calafate, though.

Rooms are big, and decorated with beautiful things you don't see in other hotels. Noise isolation is not very good, but normally there shouldn't be too much noise in the night time. There is no air conditioning, but I don't know if anybody would really need it - El Calafate isn't very warm.. I think it's a good thing that the hotel enforces you to be a little bit more green! The breakfast is quite good with a nice selection - anyway quite simple compared to some huge chain hotels, but I prefer this one.

The location is quite good, just a little walk to the "main" street with most restaurants and shops. I hope Calafate is safe to walk? The view to the lake is very beautiful from here, since the hotel is up in the hill.

Probably price-quality-wise, this hotel is very good, maybe even among the best? Some of the hotels are really expensive, and any cheaper ones could not beat this.

Modern, very chic designs, rooms with a unique touch, and at the approx US$150, very good value.
For room, on windy days, it can get a little noisy in the upper floor facing wind direction, so recommend keeping that in mind when checking in.
Location is ok, to the main street it's a 10min walk. Would definitely stay again.

Probably the best hotel in El Calafate. Very good and modern design with lots of ethnic materials and furniture. Young and friendly staff. Especially the bartender is very friendly and funny ! Talk to him for the best restaurants. We met him at one of his own recommendations and were immediately introduced to his family and offered two glasses of wine !
Rooms are great, especially the corner suites. The only small downside is that trafiic causes some problems when sleeping with windows open.

Room Tip: Take a corner room (which are probably suites)
