We stayed at Eolo for 3 nights in a luxurious room, with a great view on the mountains and the plains. The room was spacious and well furnitured with a great bed and a well equiped bathroom.
The dining room is facing Lago Argentino with great views at breakfast (sunrise) as well as dinner (sunset).
Quality of the food is great and so is the service.
Wifi works well.
Just be aware that they accept dollars only at the official rate.

The hotel is some 20 minutes away from El Calafate.
There are some nice walks from the hotel, but the best activity is obviously to visit the Perito Moreno glacier, a bit less than an hour from Eolo.

We knew this was the place of choice for our trip to see the glaciers of southern Patagonia, but we certainly did not expect anything as polished and subtle as this. Set in a beautiful open plain, surrounded by mountains that continually changed aspect with the movement of clouds and sun, Eolo surprised us with luxurious simplicity. Built in a U around a courtyard, all the rooms face out to expansive vistas, and all are furnished similarly in modern comfort, using colors, materials and images derived from and appropriate to the natural setting. The quality of the meals was far beyond anything I'd have imagined possible in so remote a location in a climate not conducive to gardening etc. Apart from relatively limited quantities of fresh produce, the meals were as varied, refined and delicious as in fine restaurants around the US. The wait staff and chef were all quite sophisticated hospitality professionals who were living and working at Eolo for the season, returning to Buenos Aires or Europe when it ended. Traveling with friends, we'd decided to wait until after arriving in this region to book our boat tours and other activities. Therefore, we were very happy to find that upon our arrival at Eolo the smart, efficient young women who handle all the reception/concierge functions led us to the library/lounge for tea and a discussion of what we might want to to when during our days.
They masterfully juggled our different preferences, helped us plan for optimal variety of experiences and later, when weather didn't cooperate or someone had a change of heart, willingly handled the changes of plan. Among their valued suggestions: pay the difference and go "first class" on the boat tour to see the glaciers (way more comfortable and convenient), do a jeep trip up into the mountains directly behind the hotel (fabulous views, close encounters with the llama-like guanacos, spirited driving over rough tracks), keep close track of the weather before committing to a walk on the Perito Mereno glacier. Personally, I found the hotel so pleasant that after a week of Patagonian tourism I commandeered a large leather chair in a quiet corner and spent my final day with a book, taking time out for another lovely lunch, some afternoon tea in the lounge and an occasional photo stroll into the grasslands beyond the back door. Given the world-class appeal of the region's geography, the draw of Southern Hemisphere summer during February, and Argentina's strong European heritage, it is not surprising that Eolo attracts a sophisticated, multi-national clientele.

Perched on a slope overlooking a huge windswept steppe, comprising a 75,000 acre sheep ranch (estancia)..with dramatic, rocky, snow-capped mountains on the second side, and Lake Argentina on the third, Eolo (named after the Greek wind god), starts with a huge advantage. Add to it highly-professional, English-speaking staff for whom no service is too small or too large to accommodate its guests..and you get the idea of why we call it paradise. After all, it is part of the Relais & Chateaux network. The rooms are basic, but comfortable. The food is very good. Understand that all supplies have to bump down Argentina's 2000 mile National Route 40, usually only two lanes and often unpaved ! Eolo is 1200 miles south of Buenos Aires with not much in between. The draw to Calafate via a modern,12-year-old airport is to take a memorable catamaran cruise on Lake Argentina to view the many huge glaciers..and also to view one of them (200 square mile Perito Moreno) from above via a drive into a large, picturesque national park. (Don't bother to visit the town of Calafate; it's a very pretty..but overpriced.. tourist trap !! And, yes,Eolo's expensive..but worth every penny !!

Room Tip: Only 17 rooms..all similar..all with an awesome view !

Amazing lodge in the middle of nowhere, truly enjoyed our stay there. Staff was very friendly, Marina and Carolina have been great in helping us booking all the activities like fly fishing, glacier trekking, etc. We has the most beautiful horseback riding trip with Robert and Truca (the dog), really unforgettable. Food was much better than the other places we stayed in Patagonia. Rooms were very comfortable. Only suggestion for improvement I would have is the pool are which felt a bit outdated.

Writing this from an amazing hotel in Goa, India, I had to make sure to go back and recommend Eolo, where I was last year. Everything about the stay here was perfect. I can't imagine anywhere nicer in Patagonia. The food and wine were as good as anything in New York, and the scenery...not really something I can put into words. You just have to see it.

Eolo provides another destination that helps define excellence. When you arrive the staff, carolina, marina et.al. are there to welcome you and ensure that you enjoy the activities and facility services to the highest of levels.
The activities are a must. The minitrekking is the adventure of a lifetime and the trip to the catwalk provides another perspective of the glacier. You cannot describe an experience which is indescribeable. The 90 minute walk on the glacier. is exhilirating and adventurous .
The activities provided by the staff are special. We took two horseback rides with roberto. There may be other guides providing equal enjoyment but i cannot imagine a better guide. plus, ask to see his pictures. just beautiful.

The one horrible experience we had was the 4x4 ride up the mountain.Tthis is not provided by the staff of eolo. We were 7 adults and one child cramped into a vehicle which would have been comfortable for at most 5 people , maybe 6. plus of the 2 hour trip we only stopped for 20 minutes. there was much more to see if there were frequent stops but not when so cramped. Even if the ride was not cramped it would have been horrible given that we were in the vehilcle for most of the trip with only two stops. Stay away from this activity it is terrible.

The dining is very good. i did not expect it to be gourmet but it was very tasty. the choice of courses is limited but the staff goes out of their way to be certain your wishes can be accomodated. you just need to ask.

i did my research before coming here and i believed this was far and away the best property in the area. i knew in advance it was very expensive and there were many items such as wine, spirits and activities which were charged separately. my attitude is that if you go to a property expecting excellence and experience it then the property should be considered as a great value and eolo certainly fits this description.

Room Tip: the corner room we had faced east and north. very quiet and great views of the cows and the jack rab...
