Estancia Cristina is a wonderful place. First a pleasant cruise where the team offers you croissants and coffee. You pass along magnificent glaciers fallen from the main one : Upsala. Then a nice trek in 4x4 and an easy walk drive you on top to admire the Upsala glacier. Our driver was excellent. Do not miss the interesting visit of the museum. Our guide was captivating, tracing the story of the family who arrives there end of XiX century.

We toured through Peninsula Valdez, Ushuaia and El Calafate on this trip. I would say the daylong trip with 14km hike through the Canyon of Fossils was the highlight. The day starts with a 3h boat ride that takes you near the icebergs that break off the glacier. This is then followed by a 4-wheel drive for about 5km along a fairly intimidating track. The first part of the hike has views of the glacier and emerald green lake. It then descends into the canyon where you see fossils and amazing colours in the rock formation. Although we all want to stop and take endless photos, the guide kept us moving along since we had to be back by 5:30 for the return boat trip. The final part of the hike is somewhat anti-climactic along the meadows of the valley although we did come across a herd of horses. We celebrated with a quick cold beer before embarking for the 2h trip back on the boat and 1h bus ride to town. That time was well used to review the countless photos and catch a nap. The hike was not overly difficult but you do need good hiking boots or shoes and some stamina.

Wow, wow, WOW! A big, beautiful, EPIC day...one of the very best things we did in a 2-week journey through Patagonia, in which every day competed to be the most magical. Estancia Cristina is a must.

The Cañadón de los Fósiles itinerary consists of a boat and 4x4 journey that takes you to the starting point for a guided trek. There is no throwaway time in this day - it's all good stuff. At nearly 3-hrs, the boat journey across Lago Argentino is comfortable (even in high chop like we had) and affords plenty of opportunities to take photos with icebergs and glaciers. The 4x4 ride is a fun and adventurous climb up a rugged mountain road. And the trek...it's just perfect. The scenery is stunning and quite varied - there is always something cool to see. At the top, you have a magnificent vista of three glaciers converging at a lake. As you move down, you see fossils and strata that seem to take you through geologic time, and near the bottom, the landscape becomes more pastoral, like something you might see in Switzerland or Scotland. The picnic lunch was delicious as well.

To be honest, as I was booking I wondered about the cost of it - would it really be worth the expense? But having done it, I see where the money went and I don't begrudge a penny. If you love to hike in beautiful and unusual landscapes. the Cañadón de los Fósiles trek is an experience you'll treasure.

Fantastic day starting with the navigation of the Argentinian Lake, flowing through floating icebergs. The navigation leads to the Estancia, a beautiful factory immersed in the Natural Park.
All guided by professional guides.
Amazing. A bit expensive but amazing.
