Owner description: Located on the Northwest shore of the Argentine Lake on the far of Cristiana’s arm, Estancia Cristina is located in a unique corner in Los Glaciares National Park. Founded in 1941 by Joseph P. Masters and his wife, this stunning place still maintains its essence, keeping the history of this family alive, that with great effort and perseverance, made this lonely and inhospitable place a small paradise a home. This full day program grants alternatives to those who prefer a quiet afternoon of walk and history as well as those who are into adventure with trekking and 4x4 wheel drive rides.

This is the only trip that we took that didn't have our own guide and driver. It started off badly because we were picked up from our hotel, 50 minutes later than the time that they had phoned the evening before to confirm, by a coach that had seen better days and we were concerned that it wouldn't make it to the boat. When we arrived at the boat we happened to find ourselves at the head of the queue. However, we were held back until everyone else was on the boat, so couldn't get seats! Spoke to the chap in charge and remonstrated about being held back etc. He then sorted out seats and apologised!
All of that said, the trip was really fantastic, going through the icebergs and then in four wheel drives up to the glacier. Quite scary at times, but really a trip of a lifetime.
Food at the restaurant was inedible as the lamb was simply bones with next to no meat on them. However ate the veg., and the bottle of beer managed to sustain. However, the sights and trip to the glacier meant that it was worth going hungry for.
The boat trip is extremely cold, so make sure that you have warm waterproof clothing and a pair of stout shoes to climb up to view the glacier.
Comments about the coach ride back to hotel are same as previous. When we told our own guide and driver about the problems (and how we wished that they we had arranged for them to come with us), they told us that it was the beginning of the season and it would take them some time to sort things out. - That, apparently, is the way it happens in Argentina: so beware of 'organised' trips.
All of that said, it was a marvellous trip that shouldn't be missed. Just let down by sloppy organisation.

I can't recommend this enough. The boat ride alone is worth the trip. You are picked up at your hotel at 7 am for a three hour boat ride passed icebergs and glaciers. Then at estancia Christina you board a 4 x 4 jeep for a view of the Upsala Glacier that takes your breath away. This is followed by lunch and a short walk round the property. Absolutely outstanding.

A great one day tour,
We took the 4*4 to the glacier, very nice views, great guides.
The lunch is nice too, but also to expensive for what you get.

We were there October 2012. It was a short bus ride to the port from El Calafate and a long but beautiful boat ride out on the long lake. We decided to do the "long trek" so we were dropped off of the boat before most of the people were dropped off close to the Upsalla Glacier. We hiked for about 5 hours including a 45 minute break for lunch. The pace of the hike was good - we did not just go for a Sunday stroll. The peninsula we were on had great views and varied terrains. There were only 4 of us with our guide - Eduardo - who was particularly informative, friendly and knowledgeable. Afterwards we were picked up by the boat taken to the Estancia and toured the museum. The day was the highlight of our two week in Argentina.
