What a busy day! After an early start and bus trip to the marina we then headed out across lake Argentina passing numerous icebergs and heading towards the Upsala Glacier. The closer we went the more frequent and larger the icebergs.

From here we headed to Cristina estancia and then on a 4x4 trip along a rough track up the side of a mountain emerging in a very strange environment of highly polished but fragile stone. This was where the glacier once passed destroying everything in it path and leaving behind polished rock. From here you can then look out across the green lake and the merging glaciers.

Although this was a long day trip, it was fascinating and went by (too) quickly. We saw many beautiful icebergs on the boat trip, had fun on the (very) bumpy 4x4 ride to the ridge which we wouldn't have missed due to the stunning view of the enormous Upsala Glacier from the top. The tour and history of the estancia was fascinating although lunch was overpriced and not very good -suggest bringing your own.

As you approach the glacier you first encouter floating icebergs and suddenly you realize that something special is around the corner....when the glacier appears it is simply breathtaking.

Like Perito Moreno, getting up close with a glacier is a spectacular experience. Just the enormity of it, stretching for miles back to the mountains. Plus there's always (?) a few icebergs in the bay in front of it, that have broken off it, which have weird shapes and the deep bl;ue colour of compacted ice

We took a boat trip on the lake to see this and many other glaciers. It's a beautiful setting with many icebergs to see along the way.
