“More that just a hotel”

We had a great experience at the hotel and found the staff to be very friendly. It's a short walk to town, which was also very convenient. We loved the lobby bar and the sheep herding shows each day. The grounds are beautiful, so we spent a lot of time exploring and playing with the dogs. The folk show/dinner at the parilla on the grounds was a bit pricey, and the food was not the best, but we enjoyed it overall. The rooms were a bit small and not updated, though we didn't feel that this was a big problem. The breakfast selections were much better than other hotels we experienced in Argentina.

A large hotel that tours and travel agents would use. It wasn't bad until the buffet breakfast -- no juice glasses, no cheese, little coffee, low on breads and rolls. The dinner show has all-you-can-eat beef, lamb and salad bar. It was expensive and booked by tour groups. The sheep and cows grazing on the lawn are cute.
The hotel is a 15-minute walk from the main shopping street. When walking back to the hotel, stay on the main street until you cross the stream, to avoid a poor part of town.

I didn't expect very much when booked the hotel, but it really blew our mind. the rooms very lush, spacious and clean. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accomodating.
There is a fireplace and bar to lounge around and soak up the atmosphere and view of the acreage and mountains.
We borrowed bikes from the hotel to ride into town and spend the day. you can take a tour of the hotel guide who demonstrates making sweets, sheepshearing and tour of the hotel that has so much history behind it.

The only thing is the WIFI and internet, although it is free, it is so slow and you can't get wifi from your rooms, you have to be at the bar to get any signal.

I definately recommend this hotel to anyone as you won't be disapointed!!!!!

after reading reviews in trip advisor and the new york times, we selected this hotel for a four night stay. service was minimal and staff throughout the hotel lacked any personality. they provided limited service. i don't think i saw a smile once during our entire stay. rooms are old and lack character. internet service is undependable. we didn't eat at the property but heard from another guest that food from the bar was poor.

i wouldn't stay there again.

Choose instead from several around with better management.

My first room, 223, smelled of mildew with a carpet too dirty to walk on barefoot which I remedied by placing bath towels end to end. Unable to feel safe on ground floor with the windows open, I fretted an hour before being so irritated by the foul odor, I gave up and moved to 228. This room smelled better but again, dirty carpet. Another of my pet peeves - the lack of a washable mattress pad- I solved by remaking the bed with the spare blanket under the sheet.

Breakfast was the very worst during two weeks in Chile and Argentina, for instance, only two one liter carafes of coffee for many tables.

A long walk from excellent downtown restaurants, the hotel will refund your taxi fare with a receipt.

WiFi available in the lobby.

But do visit El Calafate. Moreno Glacier is spectacular!

Kau Yatun is a very nice hotel well located in El Calafate.

Localization :
Entrance of El Calafate, 5min to town center by car. Surrounded by small park with grass and animals.

Hotel/Lobby :
Nice architecture. Friendly and helpful people. Don't know about their level of english as I speak spanish.

Rooms :
Very big rooms with nice bathroom. Huge beds, very confortable.

Restaurant :
Very nice breakfast. Did not have dinner. Lunch at the bar is a nice option but the food is so so.

A nice place. The rooms and bathrooms are a little basic (mostly just a big dated), but the lobby area is really nice.

You can borrow their bikes and cycle into town.

Their dinner and show is quite entertainging, although a little expensive, but worth it for the folk singing and dancing!

It's a great place to stay if you want to be fairly close to the centre, but if you're going to get taxis anyway, then there are more luxurious places to stay at reasonable prices e.g. The Design Suites.
