“Kosten Aike : your home in El Calafate”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

Kosten Aike is not only a beautiful hotel , perfectly located in the centre of El calafate . It is more : visiting the glaciers of that part of Patagonia the kosten Aike can become your temporary home as the welcome extended to all guests is absolutely superb. From early morning untill late evening , your wishes are catered for in a very warm and spontaneous manner.

Because of my professional activities I often stay in the Kosten Aike and i always tremendously look forward to the welcome, the breakfast with the home-made muesli, the way my group is taken care off, the hot chocolate, the delicious sirloin and the way it is served by Kosten Aike's professional staff,....

It would be a sin to go and admire the Perito Moreno and not stay in this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during our recent trip through Chile and Argentia. The room was comfortable but a little small. The location was good. Above all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I would highly recommend this hotel.

I enjoyed my three nights' stay at the Kosten Aike as a base for visiting the glaciers. On arrival we were greeted with a welcome drink and when our group went up to our rooms, our luggage was already waiting at our room doors. The hotel building is an attractive wooden building, and my large front-facing room had seating at an attractive bay window. The bathroom was also a good size with all necessary amenities.
Located just two streets away from the Main Street, we could walk to shops and restaurants, and the ice-cream parlour for our Calafate ice-cream fix! It was also possible to walk to the bird sanctuary. The hotel itself also serves a reasonable dinner.
The staff are pleasant and efficient, and the manager seems to be very much hands-on, being at the restaurant even in the early morning, and taking the trouble with some of his staff to stand in front of the hotel to wave us goodbye when we left!

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Kosten Aike as a base to explore the glaciers. The check-in process was very smooth. The room was a good size, with a large bed, a small sitting area, and a good size bathroom. I wouldn't say it was overly exceptional, but certainly it had everything we wanted. The restaurant, which we tried one night, offered a reasonable choice of good offerings. The breakfast was acceptable, not overly special. We really appreciated the location of the hotel, just a couple of blocks from the main street, allowing us to walk to restaurants at night. One minor complaint, the in-room wireless wasn't working while we were there, although the lobby wireless was working and there were sitting areas if you wanted to stay connected.

The hotel was a real gem. It's 2 short blocks from downtown and has a ton of amenities. The hotel has a nice lobby area with a bar, free wifi throughout the building, a game room with foosball, a small billiard table, and a ping pong table, along with a business center and spa/gym on the third floor.

There is free breakfast which was good. The pao de quejo is a must have fresh out of the oven. The eggs were a little runny, but they were still good!

The bi-lingual staff is so warm and friendly. There were extremely helpful and ready to make calls on our behalf to our travel agent, to restaurants to make reservations, etc. They were extremely knowledgeable about the various excursions. The vice president of the hotel was also really helpful by sheparding guests to their excursions in the morning.

We had room 309, and it was very spacious and comfortable. The wifi was a little spotty at times, and we found that the wifi in the lobby was stronger than the one in the room, but I can't complain.

The hotel sells a variety of lunch boxes for you to take on your excursions for about 55-68 pesos each.

There is a restaurant called Cambalache across the street. DELICIOUS lamb stew that keeps you full for a long time. I would also recommend La Lechuza Pizzas along Libertador, the main drag. Yummy and relatively inexpensive. Don Pichon was also very good and provides a shuttle service to their restaurant.

Room Tip: Pick a room that doesn't face the bar across the street.

Hotel Kosten Aike located within easy walking distance to downtown and the local restaurants and shops. We selected this hotel over those that offer larger rooms and newer appointments for the location and were not disappointed. Our room was comfortable and had a delightful view of the small park at the rear of the hotel. The bathroom was somewhat small but came with a jacuzzi tub which is relaxing after a day tour to the glaciers. There was no hand lotion in the bathroom and no coffee/tea maker in the room for those guests that rise before the restaurant opens for breakfast. Our greatest disappointment, and the reason thnat we did not rate the hotel as excellent, was the fact that while a sign in the room warned us not to drink the tap water, water was not offered a courtesy but only available for a fee from the minibar. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.Wifi is available at no charge both in the lobby, restaurant and your room. You cannot go wrong by selecting this hotel over the more expensive establishments outside of town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a view of the small park

Pleasant surprise, near the end of a vigorous tour to spend two nights in this wonderful place. Wonderfully helpful staff, comfortable rooms, friendly bartenders, good breakfasts and a fine location. Recommend trying to get a room in the back of the hotel, which overlooks a lovely and quiet park

Room Tip: Rooms in back overlook a lovely and quiet park
