Nobody from the chef to the waitstaff wants to be at Vera Cruz.
This is evident in the food offered and the indifference displayed to the customers.

Just 2 hours ago i had the worst diner in my whole life. First of all the service is very unfriendly. Second some bread was served - old bread tasting like paper.
I ordered the pasta bolognese and cheese and my fellow the chicken with fries.
What can i say: the pasta came i a bowl half full with water, the instant-cheese aside in a plastic pocket. The noodels taste like nothing, same the sauce.
The chicken was dry and the fries were old and fatty.
GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND SPEND LESS MONEY FOR BETTER FOOD.
Especially the undfriendly service is a big minus.

Shortly after arriving in El Calafte, we wandered along Ave Libertador, the town’s main street, looking for somewhere to have lunch. The cosy appearance of the Vera Cruz looked inviting. Venturing inside, we were promptly greeted and seated. Given the ambience, we anticipated a good home style meal.

After ordering the daily special, lasagne, together with a side salad of lettuce and tomato, the.waiter returned promptly with our drink order, along with a basket of dry, crusty bread, which, I suspect, was more than a day old. Perhaps the paucity of lunch time diners may have provided us with a clue, because from this point, our dining experience at the Vera Cruz deteriorated.

When our meals eventually arrived, any expectation of enjoying a restaurant quality meal disappeared. Not only were the individual servings quite small, the presentation was too plain for the lasagne to pass even as rustic home style cooking. Something as simple as a garnish of parsley would have made the lasagne look more appealing. A great deal more of something else was needed to make the lasagne tastier. It certainly was not the flavoursome Italian staple that we have enjoyed in a number of countries around the world. Given the blandness, we were grateful that the servings were small, however our meals were not good value for money.

Ordering a second round of drinks proved problematic. The waiter spent most of the time leaning against the bar staring at us. Oddly, getting his attention when we wanted further drinks proved to be challenging. After eventually placing another order, the drinks didn’t arrive. We ordering the drinks again, this time from a waitress who made it obvious that she did not want to be there, and given our dining experience at the Vera Cruz, I can probably understand why.

Bread basket had 2 pieces of somewhat fresh bread, the remainder was stale. Makes me wonder if it was at someone else's table before it was placed on ours. Odd that you have to pay extra to have plain tomato sauce on your lasagna??? No fresh cheese...packets of processed cheese. Food had no presentation. Service staff completely indifferent to your presence or meal satisfaction

My daughter ordered the fettucini with cream sauce. She was delivered a bowl of fettucini (they got that right) in a yellow soup with 2 individual packets of cheese to add. Really bad and tasteless. Somewhat stale white bread also. The grilled lamb was pretty good, really generous portions so that we asked to take out the rest. They delivered the hunks of meat to us in a clear plastic bag, no box, no container. It was pretty funny. Then we stopped in to a souvenir store on the way back to the hotel where people looked at us strangely and asked what was in the bag.
