“Truly lovely little posada”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

We planned to stay here for one night on our arrival in El Calafate before moving on elsewhere. When we arrived, the young lady at the desk was friendly and welcoming despite limited English, and we had an immediate warm feeling towards this little guesthouse. Our room, number 1, was basic but very clean and comfortable with an amazing view over the lake. The bathroom was well presented, with toiletries, and again was very clean. The beds were comfortable. After a good night sleep, the breakfast was a nice surprise. The owner makes his own breads, yoghurts, cakes and jams for his guests. Of course, the breakfast does not have the huge selection of a larger hotel but was truly excellent in quality and more than adequate.

Having checked out of the hotel, we had enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to extend and stay there for a further two nights and use this as our base for exploring the park and the glaciers. This request was accomodated immediately and we returned our bags to our room! We did not eat an evening meal at the posada, but these are offered and looked very "home made" and good quality. We chose to eat in town instead at parrilla's and "Pura Vida" restaurant.

In summary, this is not a luxury hotel, nor does it claim to be, but it is a lovely, friendly family-run guesthouse that I would love to stay at again one day!

A great base to explore the area, with a warm welcome every time. We were planning on spending most of our time out visiting the glaciers, so we were looking for affordable but simple. Accommodation is modest, but clean. Breakfast is good, I loved the small toasts that Federico makes, and the option to have dinner on site (and a good one for that!) after an exhausting day out is a bonus. The view from the dining room is great, with the lake in the background, and spending time at diner with the other guests (from all nationalities when we were there) and sharing experiences and tips, was very enjoyable. It is not very central, but the town is not that big, was not a problem with us. They are very helpful, will bend over backwards to help and assist in every way they can. Highly recommended

What a pleasure to stay at this warm and welcoming place! Federico made us feel like old friends, and he's a wonderful chef as well. We opted for dinner every night so we could concentrate on our trekking and touring rather than searching for restaurants, and we were very pleased with Federico's creations. The house is simple and clean, with a lovely view of the lake from the dining room. We would highly recommend Posada Karut Josh to all visitors to El Calafate.

This small and excellent bed and breakfast is very well-located, about a 5-10 minute walk from the main area of El Calafate. The stand-out feature of this accommodation for us was the helpfulness and friendliness of Federico (and his wife) who run it. From the time of making our reservation, they were always willing to assist us with information concerning transfers and tours and helped organise a day tour to Perito Moreno Glacier (a must in our view!) for us before we arrived. Rooms are clean and cosy and perfectly adequate – you cannot expect more at these prices though bathroom is lovely and modern with a shower and bath. Our upstairs room had a lovely view of Lago Argentina – ask for it if available. Breakfast is small but tasty with home-made cake, muffins and jam. We did not have dinner there which we regretted as eating options in El Calafate are not of the highest quality, and it seemed like a good option from other reviews. We were delighted to be back after finishing our wonderful but exhausting time in Torres del Paine. All in all, a well-priced, lovely guesthouse and fantastic option for stay in El Calafate!

Room Tip: Ask for upstairs with view of Lago Argentina

We recently stayed at Posada Karut Josh after reading the excellent reviews in tripadvisor. Firstly I would start by saying that Federico is an excellent host who could not do enough for us. My wife is pregnant and he was extremely kind in helping us and advising as to what tours we could partake in. He is an extremely lovely man and I hope that when reading this review, he takes these comments a constructive criticism. Yes the posada is not the most central. But thats not a major issue. The room we stayed in was tired and dated. The floors were old and stained and the curtains did not shut properly. The room was of a decent size and you felt that with a little bit of TLC and a new paint job, it could be very nice. The outside area at the rear has a great view over the lake, bit it is unkept and messy. The path at the rear, which leads to the main road, is steep and unmarked. Federico, if you reading this; your warmth and hospitality as a host, shines through. But some simple improvements could make all the difference. I think that this B&B was not for us. Others looking for a base to explore the glacier and a great host to advise, will surely be fine with this.

Room Tip: Have one facing the lake

Thanks for your words. Just one comment to this opinion: I think that if someone is looking for a 4-5 stars hotel service, don't have to make a reservation in a B&B. But we appreciate all the comments, as everything is useful to make us grow up, to improve our service.

This very friendly B & B is run by a wonderful Italian couple. The communication by email before we went was friendly and informative. We stayed for 3 nights in December 2011.

Rooms here are simple and spotless. It's not plush but it's comfortable and very hospitable. The view from the breakfast/dining room looks like a picture. There is a garden at the rear of the property which has a few seats should you want to relax outdoors.

It’s a short walk (minutes) into the main area of the town where there are lots of café’s restaurants, shops etc.

My partner and I are never normally keen to have dinner in the hotels or B & B’s we stay in as we prefer to go out and explore but here we made an exception. We defy you to not be tempted by the aromas that Federico (the owner) produces from the kitchen. Packed lunches were very substantial and delicious. We would recommend that you arrange to take these tasty packages with you if you are heading out to explore the delights of the National Park and glaciers as you will be able to find delightful spots to eat your lunch and you won’t have to queue up missing out on the spectacular scenery. Federico and his wife Claudia clearly enjoy eating and were able to recommend other very good restaurants to us. As with the rest of Argentina just remember portions are generous.
Federico was fluently able to suggest and book excursions for us. He did tell us which company they used and said there were other companies that may be cheaper but they could also be more expensive. There was no pressure at all to make the booking through him.

Although we stayed in other much more expensive hotels on our trip this was one was quite possibly the most friendly and enjoyable as well as being great value for money.

It´s not the most central B&B and you have to walk about 800m to reach the start of the main street with its shops and restaurants, but it´s worth staying there. The host is Italian and offers restaurant style food in his B&B in the evening. And boy, can he cook! The rooms are clean and OK, but the quality of service and friendlyness is really what makes this place special.
His recommandation for our activities were also spot on: Hiele y Aventura on day one to go to Perito Moreno glacier and on day 2 take a cruise with Solo Patagonia (ask for VIP tickets, which cost 200 ARG$ extra, but are well worth it as you get prime seats and whiskey + drinks + food included). But back to this place, if you search for a place to stay - don´t look any further.
