Otherwise, midday (12:00) and afternoon (15:30) trips offers fast-food service and drinks (not included) available in the ranch of the estancia, where passengers relax and end enjoy the surroundings before returning to El Calafate. We continue rising to the second viewing point at 1030 meters with incredible views of Torres del Paine, Southern and Northern channels of the Argentino Lake, the highest picks of the Andes mountain chain and the Fitz Roy mount, if the weather allows us. We continue the 4x4 adventure descending the Frias Mount trought the lengas forest in the east slope of the mount, finishing in the Quincho (country restaurant) of the estancia Alice main house where we’ll have meals before returning back to El Calafate. There is potencial wildlife viewing (guanacos, hares, foxes-, armadillos and skunks), and cattle hill. “Consider if you have kids or have been nowhere else”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We visited Cerro Frias on our last day in Patagonia after 3 weeks. The airline changed our flight so we had nearly a day to kill and decided to do this. We did the 4wd tour with lunch so I can not comment on the zipline or horses, which would be fun for kids. We opted for this as we were going straight to the airport. The Land Rover wound its way up and down the mountain with numerous stops and brief comments and ended up at the lodge with a very leisurely huge lunch that was nice. Ultimately we were underwhelmed as we had been to every major site and park in Chilean and Argentine Patagonia previous to this.
So, if you have not been anywhere else in Patagonia and need to go to a vista to view mountains and lakes and a ranch this might be your cup of tea. In retrospect we should have strolled along the esplanade in town and gone to the Glacier Museum. Our excursion cost USD$240.

We enjoyed the ziplining excursion. The view isn't unique to the ziplining tour but it is exciting, especially for the kids.

“Great horseback ride and half day excursion but little English”
Reviewed January 8, 2013 via mobile

We did this as a half day excursion to do something in between glacier tours. We saw the brochure on horseback riding and the views looked spectacular. We arrived at the ranch and the gentleman that greeted us spoke a little English so he grouped us with the other horseback rdiers.

However, when we got to the horses, we discovered our gaucho only spoke Spanish, German, and Portuguese. This was a major let down as it was our first time on horses in years. We managed to get up the mountain and the views are fantastic. Pictures do it no justice. I would highly recommend if you want to see El Calafate from a new, high altitude perspective. However, due to the lack of English we couldn't get the amazing pictures we wanted with us in them. Additionally, my horse kept veering off the path and it was difficult to communicate how to get the horse back on track.

Again, the views alone made this excursion worth it.

On the way back we had to wait for over 40 minutes for the other excursions to finish. This was a disappointment at first but we ordered a bottle of Malbec in the dining hall and all was well. The views from the dining hall are great as well.

Overall an ok experience.

“A Horseback ride to the top of the World”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

We took this trip not expecting how wonderful it would turn out. The gaucho was so helpful/skillful as we ascended up the tall mountain to reach plateau overlooking El Calafate, Lake Argentino and the opposite Valley facing Chile. the view is breathtaking and the entire experience was priceless. This is not just a horseback ride on flat ground, as some of the other ones offer. Make no mistake, this is the one to take.

“Great view ....”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We did a half day excursion to Cerro Frias. The climb by jeep has allowed us to see beautiful landscapes: the Lake Argentino, guanacos, hawks and wild steppes.
Apart from that, I must say that it is also possible to do horseback riding and some other stuff. Lunch was very good, at the Estancia.
