We spent three nights in house over Christmas. The house has spectacular unobstructed views of lago Argentina, but what makes it so special is the service. We receive great advice and assistance from the hosts and the rest of the staff. We also had our Christmas dinner there, which was a very nice meal and the evening had a very personal touch.

If you are willing to put up with the 5km walk to town, which is along the lake, this is a great place to stay.

We spent three nights in the Hosteria La Estepa and really enjoyed it! The hotel is a bit outside the city but that was actually the best part because it offers great views on the lake from most of the rooms being still at less than 5 min driving from El Calafate. Augustina, the tenant was really friendly and helped us to choose and book very good excursions and recommended also good places to eat. They offer laundry services, and even though we didn't get the chance to try their food for dinner, breakfast was very good with home made bakeries!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with view to the lake.

We just returned from Argentina. The highlight of our trip was Patagonia and El Estepa was a hidden gem we stumbled upon. No TV in the room, but you do not need one with the stunning views of the lake. The owners and staff was exquistely kind, hospitable and attended to our every need. They gave excellent local restaurant tips, and we dined on the best ham and cheese empandas in the dining room one evening when we did not want to leave the view to go out to dinner. We requested a packed lunch for our excursion, which was ready for us early the next morning. Enjoy a wonderful breakfast on the patio. The hotel is a is mere 5km out of town, away from the masses of tourists.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view

This place is magical; the views from rooms and all around the large open areas are stunning. The staff is hands-down the friendliest and most accommodating I have encountered (and I have been to many hotels.) You simply can’t go wrong staying here and I can’t say enough about this wonderful B&B that feels like a home away from home. Anyone who works at or owns a hotel should stay here for a few nights to understand what it means to be professional and warm and thorough and responsive. My only concern is that they have spoiled me rotten and it’s going to be difficult to stay in even good hotels from now on. A new standard has been set! I wish all the best for all my new friends at Hosteria La Estepa.

Room Tip: Get an upstairs room if one is available.

We stayed at the Hosteria La Estepa for 3 nights in Nov 2012. We had a triple room with a spacious bathroom. The hotel is extremely spacious, a lodge design. It is very clean with a great view of the lake. The owner ( he changed our flat tyre ) and the staff ( Maria ) were very friendly and helpful. As it is located on a hill and about 2.5 miles to the town centre, a car is needed. The hotel serves dinner if required, but we didn't try.
