Bring your binoculars (if you're traveling with them) to this nature reserve, where you'll get an eyeful of a wide array of Patagonian birds. Along the walking trail you'll find signs that identify bird species and plant life, and provide more information than is included in the self-guided trail guide available at the entrance.

Only a few blocks away is a residence belonging to Argentina's president, Christina Kirschner (you'll be able to tell from the security detail posted outside). Heading away from town, also within a few blocks, on Los Gauchos, is the factory-store of Ovejitas de la Patagonia--really excellent ice cream (also available in town, on Av. Libertador).

Natural beauty, local color and great ice cream--not bad for an afternoon.

Nice place to take a evening walk to enjoy the sunset and to see the birds flying homes...
It has got a lot of species of birds, flamingos and ducks. They have several observation platforms for better viewing. Even we are not into birds watching but we did enjoy looking out for them and the sunset was beautiful.

If you have a couple of hours in El Calafate and a nice and clear weather you should check this reserve. It is a lagoon, just near the Lago Argentina, where you can see lots of flamingos and different species of ducks and birds. You can walk around the lagoon and you have several observation spots. It is even better if you have binoculars.

Nice place to take a walk in the morning or evening, just about 15 min walk from downtown. Other than seeing the birds, there is a gate open to the beach of Lago Argentina which you can take a stroll.
Here is a tip. if you walk further down the road for another 10 min, there is a restaurant in hotel Las Dunas which is pretty good, nice and quite. It has a fantastic view of Lago Argentina.

Nothing extraordinairy but a great place to escape the noise of el calafate. You can walk from the el calafate or takle a cab. The walk 1.5hr to 2.5hr depanding how often you stop is on a flat peninsula so pretty easy for all ages.
Nice two hours, looking at birds and great surroundings. Depanding on the time of the day, the colors can be amazing.
Do not go if it's raining cause half of the park will be flooded.
Great way to spend a couple of hours bewteen two things or first or last day in el calafate.
