“Great place to hang out for a couple of hours”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Nothing extraordinairy but a great place to escape the noise of el calafate. You can walk from the el calafate or takle a cab. The walk 1.5hr to 2.5hr depanding how often you stop is on a flat peninsula so pretty easy for all ages.
Nice two hours, looking at birds and great surroundings. Depanding on the time of the day, the colors can be amazing.
Do not go if it's raining cause half of the park will be flooded.
Great way to spend a couple of hours bewteen two things or first or last day in el calafate.

“Rather Relaxing Evening Walk”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Most tourists flock to El Calafate for Perito Moreno and the Glacier Park, overlooking the other attractions in and around the town. Laguna Nimez is makes for an extremely picturesque walk, especially in the evenings. Just a 20-minute walk from the Main Street, the park boasts pretty scenery, two attractive lagoons, abundant fauna and flora and access to the beach of Lago Argentino. If you enjoy photography, definitely make a stop at Laguna Nimez. We saw too many different species of birds to count. It was great! Tickets are 35 pesos but can be reused multiple times with no date restrictions.

“Native birds and plants”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Our walks from the hotel to El Calafate downtown passed near the entry to Laguna Nimez, so one day we decided to enter this natural reserve. From the street, you don't get a good idea of the extension of this reserve and the attractions it harbours. If you have time on a day with fair weather, take a couple of hours to take a stroll along this trail. Even if you aren't into bird watching, you may change your opinion after a while - it is that interesting.

At the entry, you'll receive a folder with some information about the laguna, which are available in several languages. The major stops of the trail are numbered and you'll find explanations in the folder regarding the flora and fauna.

Make sure that you are well protected against the sun, then stay quietly at a spot, and let the birds come near you to take some nice pictures.

“Bird watching for the un-initiated”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Walking distance from the center of El Calafate, the bird sanctuary offers inexpensive rental binoculars and a self-guide brochure. Marked walkway allows sighting of many patagonian and migratory bird species, lots of different ducks, coots, swans and even birds of prey..and more.
There is also beach access to Lake Argentino. Nearby construction of new hotels spoils the view a bit. We spent 2 hours and had a lot of fun spying on exotic-looking birds in their natural habitat.
