Stayed 3 nights at a private room and have to say Che Lagarto has the best hot shower you ever dreamed of after a long day of trekking and a very very comfortable bed, excellent mattress. In addition the reception is extremely friendly and even helped me save a paid reservation to go to EL Chalten where we had a no show. Couldnt stay at Che Lagarto on our way back from Torres del Paine because they were full and ended up staying at Hostel Calafate right next door which costs the same amount of money but doesnt even come close to comfort and hospitality.

We were in the 12 beds dormitory, and it was not good. Room is too small for that many beds, you don't have much space for your bags, and there are only tiny lockers outside the room.
There is heating in the bedroom, but obviously they don't know how to use it since people keep opening the windows; even during the night when it's 0 degree outside...

Bathrooms were cleaned once a day, which was not enough since 24 people were using the same bathroom (3 showers and 3 toilets). It was unclean and smelly most of the time, and never had toilet paper or even soap to wash your hands!!!!

There is a kitchen, but no cutlery, only 4 plates.... nearly nothing to be able to cook. Worst part is that we got our food stolen from the fridge and from the box outside (soup, pasta...). FYI I had my watch stolen too, and the staff were not even shocked!!!

The staff: it took 30 min for the guy to find our booking and give us two beds. It was late and dark in the room, so we just fell asleep straight away. BUT at 3 AM someone sat on me, saying it was his bed! It appears that they gave me someone's bed. No apologies from the staff, found another for the other guy. But be advise that on this hostel, beds are not allocated, so this might happen to you too!!!! So the staff is not good, not professionnal and with little help.

Breakfast is included, and is just okay. We only had once fresh bread during our 4 breakfasts their :( And annoying thing, they put music really loud in the living room and breakfast room. At 7 or 8 AM I personnaly don't want to hear loud techno music.

Tv room: has no tv!!!!

Double bedroom looked nice though.

If you really want to go there, book in advance on their website as it is cheaper. At the counter the price is nearly double :S

Great hostel, great music and atmosphere.
The design of the place is very energetic, the restaurant is a nice addition.
I used the offered organized promotion for el chalten, they had mistakes and disinformation, saying the room is for 4 people but was for 6. They overcharged me.
But when I used their services it was great.
The staff is generally really nice.

It's new and looks nice, a building perfectly suits the hostelling business, but they totally should employ more cleaning staff! The place was just dirty and the bathrooms - disgusting.
Apart from that - OK, nice and helpful people at the reception.

I stayed at a private room in this hostel for more than a week and I definitly recommend it to those who do not look for fancy a commodation and prefer to invest their money in trips and excursions but at the same time do not want to stay n a dorm.

The staff is amazing, they are always willing to give you advise on trips and would organise it for you if you like to. Very friendly and professional!

The only thing to bear in mind is that the wall are pretty thin. It did not bother me as I was really tired after the excursions so I would fall asleep without problems.

The location is great, just off the main street el Livertador, with plenty of choice for restaurants, travel agencies, shops where you can by gear for hiking and supermarkets

I would definitly come back if I ever return to Calafate

Good staff, with nice information service. They also can buy all the tours for you (but you pay more than if you do it by yourself). People are all so helpfull! Good laundry service. Sometimes in the week, music and special dinners in the common area! There is a nice place outside the building for smokers. They also have many games and books. Breakfast is nice! and starts very early, before the great majority of the tours. The dorms are clean, but full of (more beds than it could have... but it is ok). Bathrooms are generally dirty. Kitchen is ok, but ever full of people. The price is good for the hostel, it is cheap compared to others in El Calafate, but the quality of services seems to be much better. They don't have lockers in the bedrooms.

It is very noise even after the mid night so we barely could sleep.
Usually people, like us, are going to El Calafate for a trekking which is starting very early - by saying that we tried to go to sleep early (around 11ish) but because they are playing a trance/ reggae music in the lounge till after the mid night. Location is just out of the centre but ok.
We are late 20s couple but still this hostel was TOO YOUNG for us - loud music, people playing the pool after the mid night.....
