“Magic in Patagonia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2012

We spent two nights and three days at Nibepo Aike after spending a few days sightseeing in Buenos AIres. We enjoyed a number of great hikes and had a chance to do two long horseback rides. The estancia is a beautiful property with indescribable views in every direction. All of the meals at the estancia are homemade from ingredients grown fresh on the property. Every bite is was delicious. All of the people on the ranch showed us warm hospitality and made our stay the highlight of our time in Patagonia.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are quiet. You may want to ask for a room with a view out towards the lake.

The negative opinions on this estancia are quite surprising. I've never been more pleased with anything in my life. I found the staff to be very friendly, knowledgeable and caring. There is tons of outdoor stuff to do, as well as amazing food provided around the clock. The value for the money was out of the world. Also, it is a working ranch. They have 500 cows the gauchos round up all the time. They make much of their own food and the chef has amazing talent. I think everyone who comes to Patagonia needs to stay on an estancia for at least a couple of days and this is the place to have that experience, hands down.

We stayed at Nibepo Aike at stage 2 of our Argentina holiday, after 4 days in Buenos Aires. As is so often the case, the body had arrived but the soul was still somewhere halfway between UK and Argentina. In Nibepo Aike the soul and body joined up again. A wonderfully beautiful place, well situated with lots of opportunities to explore and enjoy Patagonia. Peace and calm are intense, the nature is breath taking and Nibepo Aike allows you to take advantage of it.
One warning, when you dine in Nibepo Aike check the prices of the wine you are being served. They are very good but the price tag is significant. Just be aware.

An wonderful experience... the rocky ride on gravel added to the entire experience. We arrived, the kids got super involved by: riding horses, learning about sheep and wool, hiking, watching a great horse race, walking to the water, learning about the history of the area and enjoying some fantastic food (and unforgettable times with family). This experience is now in my all time top 10 (along with going to the Perito Moreno Glacier on the same trip).

Room Tip: Day trip only in December 2010

We went here after hiking at Torres del Paines and it was the perfect two day break before heading to Buenos Aires. This is an actual working ranch but with nice accomodations for travelers set up in what looks like an old ranch house (I am sure it has been added on to). We spent one day going to the Perito Merino Glacier which is a must - do. The second day we hung around the ranch -- rode horses, saw a sheep shearing, took a 2 hour hike. Very quiet and peaceful. The food was outstanding as well -- best we had in Patagonia.

My wife and I have become a bit addicted to the whole Argentina Estancia thing and have now been to 6 estancias all over the country and I'd put Nibepo Aike in the top 2.
We are keen horseriders and travelled with my mother and a couple of friends who are also very experienced riders.

The horesriding was great, they have enough horses to cater for all levels of ability but you have to remember these are shared horses and horses are individuals, you may have to swap ondce or twice to find one you really gel with. I think for people who aren't confident on horseback Argentina is the perfect place to start, the criollo horses they use are very placid in general and although we (Australia/USA/Europe) generally don't break horses in as harshly as they do in Argentina the Argentinian method does crerate a very obedient animal perfectly suited to beginners.

leaving horses aside the location is simply unbeatable, it has the best location of any of the estancias we have visited. Its right at the base of the mountains and the corrals etc are wonderfully rustic. The rooms are very comfortable and the food is fantastic although I'm not sure about sweet potato as a dessert!!

The other outstanding feature of this estancia is the staff, they were so accommodating and friendly even by Argentinian standards which are very high! The staff we had most to do with were Federico, Jasmine and Moncho but the other staff we had breif dealings with were very accomodating also.

All in all it would be hard to recommend this estancia more highly. I read a couple of reviews on tripadvisor before we left and they criticised the staff a bit said they weren't keen to go horseriding or organise other activities etc and really had to be pushed into things or didn't offer them at all. This definitely was not our experience, perhaps there is a new team this year because they were fantastic!
