“A Hotel Amazing Enough to Follow Our Wedding”
Reviewed April 26, 2011

My wife and I got married in October 2010 and went to Argentina and Brazil on a two week honeymoon. We flew right into Bariloche through EZE and after a 40 minute cab ride, a few dirt roads, a few more concerned looks between my wife and I, we pulled into Aldebaran. After 20 hours of travelling, it was great to be somewhere. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we pulled up, helping us take our bags up to the room (Cerro Lopez Room). After marveling at how nice and rustic-looking the rooms were we opened the window and saw a beautiful blue lake and a towering mountain. Unbelievable.

The hotel got us set up with lunch and a fantastic Malbec on the veranda and we ate (the breakfasts overall were fantastic, lunches and dinners were very good) After lunch we set up massages (good, not great) and talked to the staff about renting a car. (N.B. - you need to rent a car if you're going to stay here. You're a few miles off the beaten path with this hotel in between Bariloche and Llao Llao and cabs can get expensive and time consuming). Not only did they help us rent a car, but they had the car delivered to the hotel.

Throughout our four days there we got to know the staff a little bit and they got to know us. Every question or desire we had was addressed with a smile. The recommendations were spot on every time (especially Butterfly, absolutely the best food experience of our lives).

We were one of three couples at the hotel and the other two were from Texas and incredibly friendly.

Not much more to say except if your budget permits and you're going to be in Bariloche, stay here.

Went to Bariloche to ran the 4 Refugios race, a tough 50 miles trail race linking 4 mountain shelters managed by the Bariloche Andean Club. Lodged at Aldebaran. Great room with a view of forests and Lake Nahuel Huapi. They took care of my belongings while I ran and afterwords spent two wonderful days there, recovering at the spa and enjoying great food at the restaurant and almost personal service. Because the hotel has few rooms you do not have to wait for hours for everything as it is usual in larger places. Can hang for hours in the terrace overlooking the Nahuel Haupi lake.

Aldebaran can be summed up as simplistic perfection. We stayed for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, welcoming and relaxing home. We were greeted by a bottle of champagne which we sipped on our balcony watching the sun set over the lake and the mountains beyond. Nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful staff who went out of their way to accommodate our every need. We loved the fact that the hotel was the other side of the lake to the town which gave it such peace and tranquility. The spa was a very welcome break after some mountain biking (hotel hired us the bikes) and a heavy 2 days of climbing at Frey Hut. Most welcome was the comment 'of course you can have your wine in the jacouzie'!! We wouldn't hesitate in coming back and staying for a week or two. Just wonderful.

Room Tip: They're all marvellous with stunning views

This terrific small hotel is a great choice if you want to see this part of the Lake District.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were all so friendly and charming it makes you wonder if Argentines shouldn't take over the running of all the World's hotels...(my wife had a big birthday there, so a big 'thank you' to them all for making our stay so special!)

Bariloche itself is worth seeing but has grown a little too much for its own good and is an underwhelming place considering the beauty of the area. The Aldebaran however is a long way out of town and all the better for it - its location is simply stunning.

The lovely Cerro Lopez rooms have views of the mountain they are named after and are certainly worth the extra.

The hotel is an upmarket place with moderate prices in the (excellent) restaurant etc - we thought it great value and has to be the place to stay if you want something more boutique than the Llou Llou resort.

It was my first trip to Argentina. After heavy project what I have finished before my vacation I'd like just to have a rest and sleep simply. I searched for hotel in area Bariloche, but not in the city to avoid noise and a considerable quantity of people and cars. I have chosen the Aldebaran. And I wasn't mistaken.
Very silent and quiet place, amazing view from room 5 in which I have stayed. It is possible not to leave at all room, to sit and look out of the window. The big room with a balcony, the big bath. The small lack - since room is located on the top floor that at a strong wind in room can be a bit cool.
Hotel has 6 or 7 rooms so it is noisy never happens. All personnel is extremely kind, on a reception freely speak English. Atmosphere is family, as though you are in own home. No night life in hotel or nearby is present, but it was ok for me.
If you have no car to reach to Bariloche it is necessary either to call a taxi or to go on foot half an hour to a bus stop and then go on bus about half an hour. It was also ok for me as I am like of walking and a nature around was very beatiful.
The breakfast is a little poor compare with hotels of 4 stars for example in Europe, but to the Argentina's standards is quite normal (on a trip I stayed in 4 stars hotels in Buenos Aires and I can compare). The dinner and lunch are supper tasty, there is the wine cellar.
I didn't use SPA and small pool.
In general if you search quiet, lonely and meditative rest the Aldebaran that that is necessary.

We loved our stay in the Aldebaran. After 4 days trekking in the Bariloche mountains this was a wonderful place to recover. The understated style, the restaurant (small menu but very well done), the well equipped rooms, the beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains, all of it made it a memorable stay for us. We don't agree with the negative comments of the staff at all. We actually found the staff to be very engaging at times, but totally unintrusive when it was called for. Do keep in mind that a rental car is very useful if you want to venture out beyond the hotel.

Perfectly comfortable rooms, with nice views. The hotel's bar and restaurant also have views over the lake. The bathroom was adequate and definitely benefitted from the evenings on which the wet towels were removed. The higher rooms have better views but are smaller. The restaurant and bar have good views and there is a floating deck on the lake where one can admire the scenery.
The food is good but the menu is limited and did not change during the week we were there, added to which 2 of the courses were not on the menu, so we were going out to eat on occasions when we would have eaten at the hotel had the choice of dishes been wider. The member of staff with whom we had most communication could benefit from less "attitude" and desist from treating customers as if they have never visited a hotel before, prefacing her condescension with "let me explain you something".
The swimming pool is very small and univiting and the 'spa' is a misnomer.
