“An interesting trekking day”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

The starting point is in the middle of the forest. As long as you go higher, the trees get smaller, the open areas bigger, and more and more rocks seem to appear. The view from the Cerro Lopez lodge is incredible. And the summit is just an hour from such point. A total trip of 4-6 hours with one of the great views in Bariloche

“Amazing views”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

We hiked up to the refugio and had a burger (about 1.5-2 hours each way) The trail is well marked and there are great views most of the way up. You can access the trailhead via the public bus that passes several times a day. (I think it was #10?)

“A tough walk up, but worth it for the view”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

The walk up is quite steep for the first hour and on loose rocks and dirt. But when you remember it is not a race and take the time to turn around and look back over the lake it is a stunning view. After 45 minutes you get to this great new cafe/restaurant at Roca Negra - good sandwiches and even better pies. It is worth stopping here to get your breath back and have some lunch. On the next section between Roca Negra and Refugio Lopez be on the look out for woodpeckers - there was a big family there when we visited and they were very entertaining. From the refuge up to the top is a scramble, but well worth it for the views. You can easily do the trip in a day (it took us about 3 hours going up including time for lunch at Roca Negra) and no time at all going down.
