“The best barbecue that I had while in Argentina”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

I'll get straight to the point: this place does justice to the meat industry in Argentina. My compliments to the single chef who so expertly cooked my super-thick bife de chorizo to perfection. My dad had the lamb chops and they were juicy, soft and flavortful. To top it all off, the service was seamless, and the place is cute, inviting, and tastefully decorated in a rustic, country style. The theme is simplicity as the restaurant focuses on meats primarily, with only a few other options for side dishes. This is the kind of place that can set an example.

“The reviews don't lie”

Using Trip Advisor when travelling is a must IF you want to get the best advice.
We visited this quaint little uninspiring cabin and like most found it a bit hard to find -however it more than worth the effort for product price and service. The interior was delightful and definitely not overstated. The service we could not fault. The waitress we had BOTH nights was charming and helped us decode the very basic menu and suggested the Provoleta (baked cheese) as an entree and it was amazing and unlike anything we had before - we actually looked for spoon to eat with and told you cut it. (They have helpful customers too) When asked to recommended a wine the Catalpa Malbec was suggested, and as Argentina produces some great Malbecs we can only say the wine was as good as the advice - perfect. A salad was requested and we chose the Ensalada Completea and it too was well presented and for us to dress and even we got it right. Two parts oil 1 part Balsamic and the we tossed it ourselves -quaint. Now the prime reason we chose Alto El Fuego - the meat. We are fussy the way we like steaks cooked "Very - very Rare" (blue) and it appeared overcooked until we sliced it - it was like everything else "perfect". The chef remembered us from the first night and didn't question our request the second night and produced another wonderful result. We had the filet one night and a lamb and another steak? The second night. Lamb pink and steak as before. Be careful if you don't like salt - it is used heavily on the steaks before the BBQ but the result is perfect. After our first experience we said you can't beat 100/100 so we returned rather than try other suggested restaurants. The waitress was a delight and despite our lack of Spanish and her basic English understood our Aussie accents and delivered a perfect and most enjoyable experience both nights. For us Alto El Fuego will be remembered for a long long time. Enjoy and comment here to let us know how "You" went.

“Great Steal; Great People”

The steak is so good that I ate the flank for dinner and came back the next night after eating at another restaurant to have the ribeye for dessert. I also tried the filet, which was terrific. Thank goodness the chef didn't let his wife's family talk him into a pizza place. I've eaten steak all over the place, and he's the best on the grill.

“The others were right”

The other post aren't kidding. This was the best steak hands down that I've gas from BA to Ushuaia and back. Amazing ribeye. Tend to over cook to my preference but still incredibly tender. Great service and incredibly nice chef/owner. Having had the best steak at Michelin starred Restos in San Fran, Las Vegas, Chicago and NewYork, you have to go here if in Bariloche.

“Excellent”

Now here's a chef who knows how good meat should be treated. Tender and juicy cuts. Absolutely understandable that this restaurant is nr. 1 in bariloche. Good wines too.
