The ride from Bariloche to the River was about 1.5 hours. The outfitter provided a van that picks everyone up at their hotels. The group traveled together. The scenery was stunning. Most of the drive is on paved road but be prepared for a bumpy, off road ride for about 45 minutes. The ride winds through several small villages complete with cows, horses and sheep, often times walking in the middle of the roadway. Once we arrived at "base camp" we were greeted to a light breakfast of fruit and toasts and coffee. It was a bit cold, but the small potbelly stove was perfect for sitting by to warm up.Prior to rafting, our guide, Martin went through the safety regulations and what to expect. We were provided with wet suits, complete with boots, helmets and life jackets. We went through various scenarios on the calm part of the river and had plenty of time to practice. A safety kayak accompanied us and went first to test the rapids ahead. There were twelve rapids total, some more challenging than others but all in the Class 3-4 range. There were a few opportunities to rest when the river winded through calm waters and beautiful canyons. Our guide was funny, informative and very good at providing directions, especially during some of the exhilarating parts of the rapids. The rafting lasted about two hours and we disembarked at the Chilean border. Be prepared for a several hundred foot ascent to the van, parked at a quaint farm. There are no official facilities there to change. I recommend wearing a bathing suit and bring some dry clothes to change into for the ride home. Following the rafting, we returned to base camp for lunch. We paid for the asado BBQ which was delicious. Some fellow rafters opted to bring their own food. Picnic facilities and bathrooms are available on site. After lunch, we were treated to a slide show of photos of our group and a video clip of our experience, which can be purchased on site ( recorded on cd). We were dropped at our hotel after a long day. We enjoyed it and I would recommend this outfitter. Great to do for couples, groups, solo or with friends. I wouldn't recommend this for children under 14-15 years of age.
