“Loved the view... why so little signage?”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Loved the skiing. Would be vastly improved by a little bit more (a lot more) signage (not to be an ugly american, but US ski resorts have trails maps at the top of each lift, and easily readable signs at each split of trails..). Also very curious not to be able to buy a sweatshirt *anywhere* in town that has the ski resort name (of course my son wants show off our exotic trip). And, perhaps a little bit of line management getting onto the lifts would not be amiss. Still, overall, great skiing, and so (for us northern hemisphere types) to ski in August! Plus yummy food at El Barrilette lodge. Try the lomito sandwich!

Good infraestructure, nice restaurants and bars in the mountain. Bad snow quality. Too much people, long lines for lifts

“Worth the Trip Because It's Unique...”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

...however, Cerro leaves a bit to be desired. I will rate it along a few dimensions:

weather: the universe controls this one, so I thank the universe for 2 excellent storms during my week here, making for 3 excellent ski days and 2 others that are rather unmemorable

skiing: the expert terrain is very good, not as good as Las Lenas, but very good especially if you are prepared to boot pack up and around Nubes, and also undertake a much longer hike to the Lagunita region (worth it!! ...20-25 minute hike). One positive is the altitude: ~6000 feet, which is much easier on the lungs than Silverton at 11500 when you wish to hike 20-30 minutes. So there are only 2-3 (maybe a fourth) cool expert pockets. Unless the snow is exceptional, 3-4 days is the max I could see spending here.

ambiance/views: well, in one word, spectacular once you are on the upper third of the mountain. Lake Tahoe with European Alps is the best way I can describe it...just awesome.

people: I am here during a particularly heavy Brazilian invasion of the mountain. Having said that, everyone is super pleasant, and the Argentinians can't help but share their laid back vibe with everyone they meet.

food: pretty basic, expensive food on the mountain which is par for the course at ski resorts. Kandahar has a small outpost at the Fire on Ice building well worth visiting; fantastic lunch there (veggie pillow pasta, aka gnocchi )

ski lift price: ~$55-60/day

logistics: the 10 pesos per ride Collectivo bus from/to town is fun stuff, to mingle with locals and experience first-hand the driving of a frustrated race car driver who happens to be your bus driver. These guys (maybe there are women, but they were only guys when I was here) drive absolutely like lunatics. I only worried when the bus got silent. It meant the locals were concerned.

“Know the way - Enjoy the vistas”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

Don't expect the typical ski resort from the US. Learn to love the beauty of this mountain the South American way. If you love skiing and relaxing you can do both. The views are breathtaking, so ski some, and then enjoy a beer at one of the many great pub style restaurants. Also, learn the map or have one, there aren't lots of signs and if there is not snow all the way down to the base you may loose your last lift and have to walk some (not fun with skis). Also be careful, South American skiers ski just like they drive, crazy! Open your mind and enjoy the freedom of flying down the mountain. I also recommend to rent your equipment in the Cerro, they can store your things, and if you need any changes it is much easier than driving downtown to do it.
