“Did I wake up in Breck?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

Cerro Catedral and the surrounding village are a must-see. We visited in the late spring, so it was not ski season. We hiked the Frey trail (this is a must-do; good for experienced hikers as you get far into the journey, but a novice can walk a good 90 minutes up on smooth trails for amazing views before turning back). Get the churros at the base before heading up. Worth it!

“great skiing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

The skiing is great. Very local, you do not see a lot or people from europe but I lot of people from South America. They are more relax.

“Very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

Nice resort and nice snow. The restaurants are really good, The view they have is amazing as well as their food. Although, I wouldn't say The Same of their prices, which are ridiculously expensive. The elevation systems are quite average, and are Not well taken care of, but at least they are fast. And regarding The ski trails and signs, they are a huuugggee desastre, they aren't well marked and a lot of times I got lost.

“The biggest ski resort in South America, but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

My 3-star rating refers mainly to the resort administration, not to Cerro Catedral (the mountain) itself.
First, let me write about the positives...
I found the ski area surprisingly varied, offering from gentle blue slopes to ungroomed bumpy runs (something rare in South America). There are also vast possibilities for backcountry skiing and ski touring, enough to entertain competent skiers for a couple of weeks. The relatively limited vertical drop (1150m) is compensated by some sections of steep and exposed terrain.
The views are amazing: you can look either to the rock spires at the top or to the lake Nahuel Huapi on the bottom.
However, there are significative cons that should be weighted when planning a ski trip to here:
- Cerro catedral is not high (2180m) by Andes standards and snow conditions have become quite erratic in the recent years. Last August, for example, the freezing level was around 1500m and there was no snow at the base. However, the resort has virtually no snow making and you couldn't ski back to the base.
- Although this is the biggest ski complex in South America, the extent of the terrain, lift conditions and terrain parks ar still far to be comparable to those of the top ski resorts in North America or Europe.
Still, the lift tickets here cost the same as of the best Colorado resorts. Ridiculous...

“Biggest skiing/snowboarding complex in LatAm.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

Its peaks resemble the towers of a Gothic style medieval temple. That is the reason for its name. Mount Catedral (cathedral), located 19 kilometers from the City of San Carlos de Bariloche.
600 hectares (2.3 sq miles) of skiable surface divided into 53 well-signaled runs of various difficulties and 39 lifts ensure your fun.
Several drink & food areas in the mountain and at the base, give you the chance to enjoy your time.
Located 19 km (15 mi) from San Carlos de Bariloche, is a bonus if you want to enjoy nightlife, restaurants, drinks and shopping.
