Description: Jauja Restaurant and Grill is one of the oldest and most traditional restaurants in San Carlos de Bariloche, with over 30 years of uninterrupted activity. This has led them to have a very caring customer treatment and a very extensive menu, with the aim to offer variety and service, both to tourists and residents; therefore, in our menu, apart from the traditional cuts of Argentina grill and Patagonian lamb special, you will see two types of trout of the area, Chilean salmon, Spanish squid, fried calamari, shrimp and haddock Atlantic. Pasta varieties: vegetable ravioli, pumpkin or trout, sorrentinos, lasagna. Typical dishes of European cuisine cuts alternate with hunting deer and wild boar. They are also classic smoked trout, deer, boar and lamb, venison and lamb patties, as their variety in desserts make up a large and sober menu. Accompanied by a dozen Argentine wineries that make a balanced menu Rutini wines, Nieto & Senetiner, Terrazas de los Andes, End of the World, Rock, Las Perdices, Tomero or Andeluna, make a wide range of alternatives.

The place is run by a couple of ex rugby players, who need to have good abundant food! Most of the tourist do not know this, but it is key at the time of finding the good selection they have, maybe the widest in Bariloche. Service is professional and food is good plus plus, so it is a good choice downtown for having great variety of food, including local typical courses.

Fair prices, good wine list, excellent smoked plate (wildboar, venison, trout, cheese), and grilled trout with roquefort.
Not crowded, w/o reservation was OK on a Friday evening.

We came here after telling the concierge at the hotel that we planned to go to another very touristy restaurant on the lake. She said we absolutely couldn't go there as it was a complete tourist trap - high prices for ok food, but with a view. Since our goal was good food, we took her suggestion to go here. I will say I was underwhelmed by the ambiance after peeking into the windows of other restaurants along the way, but we gave it a shot anyways.

It had been a long day, so we had a very early dinner at about 8. I think the next people came at about 8:45. We ordered the assorted smoked meats and some venison and lamb empanadas for appetizers. Everything was good, and more than anything was very different to what we would usually find in a restaurant. For the main dish we had venison fillet, goulash, and trout. The trout was one of the best fish by husband had ever had, the goulash was good, and the venison was hard to judge. Both my dad and I ordered the venison fillet, medium rare. It was cooked well, nice and tender, but I think in the end we just weren't big fans of venison. I wouldn't fault the restaurant for this one. Just personal taste.

The service was very good. We all really liked our waiter - attentive and very nice. He definitely enhanced our impression of the restaurant.

Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. Good value, good service, good variety, and good food.

Jauja is fine for dinner. Unfortunately, after eating at El Patagon and Boliche de Alberto, Jauja comes in a distant 3rd. It is worth visiting and is affordable if you don't want to duplicate restaurants. It is very clean and the service is respectable.

Good service but average food. Ordered meat rare and it was very overdone. The trout had a nice flavour but also very overdone. Expensive for what it was.
