Bariloche (or San Carlos e Bariloche) is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. Set in the foothills of the Andes Mountain range in Northern Patagonia it is surrounded by an incredible snowcapped peaks, and has views of Lake Nahuel Huapi, a large bright blue glacier-fed lake. This is the lake district of Patagonia and has every kind of outdoor activity one could hope for including rockclimbing, Mountain biking, kayaking, alpine climbing, etc. I have made 3 trips to the region with friends and family including my 5, 9 and 11-year-old children. All of these trips were made with the most wonderful outfitter I have met. Meridies is an adventure dieting out fit run by 2 of the most knowledgeable, experienced and personable guides one could ever meet, Diego Alollio and Diego Magaldi. These guys will guide trips ranging from crossings of the ice fields Southern Patagonia to climbing Aconcagua as well as trips tailored for families with kids Center around day trips. I myself have crossed the ice fields, backpacked a hut-to-hut traverse around Bariloche, rockclimbed next to Bariloche, kayaked in lake Nahuel Huapi and sea-kayaked the Chilean fjords, all through Meridies. I would recommend any of these trips any day. These guys speak perfect English yet keep the easy-going attitude shared by most Argentinian's. They can be contacted at Meridies.com.ar.
