Periko's Youth Hostel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 14, 2012

Perikos is simply great. A beautifully renovated cabin style hostel that's warm in temperature (great during winter) but also with ambiance and friendliness. The rooms feel new, are clean and fully featured with heaters and some great novel furniture. The showers are hot and bed's comfortable with a generous amount of bedding to ensure you stay warm through winter.
The hostel itself has a fantastic kitchen which is fully featured with appliances and utensils but also with all those odd ingredients as part of 'free food; you don't necessarily want to buy. You might find oregano, oil, chilli, garlic etc.. The hostel is friendly and a great place to meet new people.
There's a great new television and lounger and staff that can assist with your expeditions or general town information. The hostel is in the center of town, a few blocks from the main square and shopping precinct which is a 1.5k or so bus ride or 30 peso fare from the main bus terminal. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: The private rooms on the upper floor are warm and quiet.

Lately many of my reviews are 4 or 5 star, but its just that Argentina has a lot of fabulous hostels! Perikos is another one! (We had thought about staying at 1004, but after sending them 2 emails and not getting any proper reply we decided they didnt seem very profesional.)

When we called Perikos to book a room they told us that there was a "stay 4 nights pay for 3" offer all june. So we decided to get a double with private bathroom, and it was, with the discount, 150 pesos/night. This was a real bargain. Our room was more like a hotel room, with comfy bed, heating, clean and modern bathroom (with a real shower-not one that wets all the floor), lots of towels, space for our backpacks... etc. It had a big window facing the street, but hardly any noice. We were sad to leave it.

The rest of the hostel is good too: the kitchen has a lot of pots and pans though it does get busy (like all hostels). They do keep it clean, which is not that common... Breakfast is self-service and also ok. The atmosphere is great, a good place to meet people but not a party place.

Staff, especially Charlie, were really helpful and friendly.

Location is great, very near the centre, supermarket, bus stop (not the terminal though- thats 2,5 km and outside town but you can take a local bus from a place near the hostel).

Would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I have just stayed at Periko's and thought it was brilliant. Our ensuite room was in the newly renovated part of the building and was as good as most hotels I have stayed in. The location of the hostel is very good for going to eat in town and if you want to cook for yourself, the kitchen has all the bits you will need.

However, it is the staff that made this hostel so good. Nothing was too much hassle for them and so we had advice on day-trips, car hire, buses, restaurants, etc as well as having taxis booked for us, printing boarding passes and booking hostels in other destinations. I would particularly like to say thanks to Charlie for all his help.

A must stay if you are coming to Bariloche!

The hostel is located on relatively a quiet street. Not too far from the touristy streets, close to the bus stops and just few blocks to the supermarket. This is a medium size hostel that seems to attract mostly mature travelers. The building was well maintained with fairly new additions and renovations. It was well organized with well laid out common areas and rooms. The entire premises were very clean. The kitchen was a good size, well equipped and clean. It did get quite busy at the peak hours. There was a nice back yard with a grill, computer area, TV room, dining area and a place just to relax.
My room, four-bed dorm with private bathroom, was clean, relatively new and quiet. The beds were comfortable and clean, with clean linen and towel. The bathroom with a shower was great. The room had large lockers that easily accommodated my entire bag.
The breakfast was nice and the Wi-Fi was strong. Both were included in the room rate. The laundry service was very efficient and a good value.
The staff was very good. Especially, the two young ladies working in the reception did an outstanding job. They were very informative, hospitable and went over and beyond to help you.
Hands down, this was one of the top five hostels I stayed in during my travels through the Americas. They can be sending people to Periko’s to learn how to run a hostel…
This place was a great value. I can’t recommend this hostel highly enough!

I can only agree with the previous reviews, this places is fantastic! The double rooms on the top floor (14 and 15) are massive, light airy and with fantastic bathrooms. Super comfy beds and great, well equipped kitchen to use. The common areas are nice with heaps of movies to watch and the backyard is a great place to relax. One additional thing worth mentioning is the amazingly helpful and friendly staff, Carlos and Juliet went out of their way to give us tips on where to eat and what to see.

Room Tip: The top floor doubles, 14 & 15 are massive so shoot for them!

Perikos hostel is great value for moeny, the rooms are very comfortable and the communal areas are sociable. The kitchen is good, they have a few computers for internet and a good lounge area. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Hotel standards at hostel prices and with hostel facilities. This is one of the bets hostels we´ve stayed in in South America.

This place offers great value for money. The dorms sleep 4 people and either have their own bathroom, or are shared with a twin room (ie maximum of six people sharing a bathroom). Each bed has its own reading lamp and plug socket, which is a nice touch. There is plenty of storage space in the lockers, plus some shelving above them for less valuable items.
The kitchen is very well equipped (it’s the first hostel we’ve stayed in that had an oven), and there is easily enough cupboard and fridge space for everyone.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hostel is affiliated with an excursion centre next door, but they don’t try to sell the tours to you – they are more than happy to recommend things around town that you can do for free.
The communal areas consist of the kitchen, a TV room with direct TV and a wide selection of DVDs, a lounge area and a garden with a huge barbeque. The TV room also has three computers which are available free of charge.
The laundry service is the best we’ve come across – AR$25 for a huge basket, that is returned the same day.
Wifi is available both in the rooms and the communal areas. It was very fast and didn’t cut out once during our stay.
