“Very disappointing”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

The only thing that lived up to the reviews was the view, which is, after all, out of the management's control.

I was really looking forward to staying here. I had had a great experince at an HI hostel in El Chalten, and was expecting the superior double I had booked for a four night stay to be at least as good. So, I checked in, carted my bag up four flights of stairs (OK, it's a hostel), admired the view, and then found that none of the light switches worked. The guy on the desk, when I went back down, professed surprise, and came back up with me. They didn't work for him. either. He said he could get someone to fix the problem, but on a Friday night on a holiday weekend? (It was around 20:00.)

Instead he gave me another room, a standard double. This had some of the same view, but inferior curtains and coverlet. The sheets were too small for the bed, the furniture, as in the superior, consisted of two very small night stands and a plastic cube. The safe deposit box was too small for a tablet or laptop. Everything looked cheap and battered, except for the towels.

Worse than the state of the room was the fact that the toilet could not be flushed. The mechanism had been broken at some point and not repaired.

The public areas also looked tired and worn. The building is noisy. There is a steep hill in both directions. I found a much nicer room, also with a lake view, elsewhere for the next three days. When I checked out the next morning the woman on the front desk did not comment on the change in my reservation.

Stayed here for 1 night at the superior room- so beautiful! The room has a panoramic window facing the lake, and is very sunny and bright. The bathroom is brand new and very comfortable.
It's one of the only places we found safes in the rooms.
The next time we came, they had only the regular room (30 pesos difference) and it was a little more than a dump... Everything was old and looked bad, and also the bed wasn't as comfortable as the one we had in the superior room. My advise - for this minor difference, stay at the superior room, it's worth every cent!
Breakfast was very good - omelets, pancakes, fresh breads, dulce de leche (of course...) etc.
On our second stay they started cooking in a 30 minutes late, and we didn't have time to eat before leaving to the bus station... :(
The staff is very nice and helpul.
They are located in Salta street, which is VERY steep and was hard to climb on with our bags.

Room Tip: For private rooms - ask only for the superior room! Those 30 pesos will make a HUGE difference.

As a middle aged backpacking couple my wife and I had three requirements of a hostel. That it be clean, have a double room with an en suite bathroom and be as reasonably priced as possible. This hostel met this and more. I was very impressed with the kitchen and the enthusiasm/helpfulness of the staff. Al positive things mentioned in the reviews are indeed the case.

I found this on Trip Advisor .

The hostel itself has a great infraestructure with jacuzzi, terrace, pool table, social area, big flat screen TV where you can watch sports and everything. The kitchen and dining room are really big. The stove is a big industrial one, so the guests can cook fairly fast.

The views of the hostel are looking to the Nahuel Huapi lake and these are just fascinating. The doorms have private bathrooms inside of them, this is the greatest feature for the guest's comfort I think.

The only thing to improve would be to incentivate some of the staff to smile to the guests and attend them in a litlle better way.

We booked in for 2 nights in a private double room after 5 months in dorms and camping. We stayed an extra night. The room was as good as many highly priced hotels with daily room cleaning and towels, etc. The view from the top floor I'd say is one of the best around with large windows helping you see across the lake. The jaccuzi also has a great view and there is reasonably priced massage also available if you want it. Of course, it's not a 5 star hotel so some of the decor in the room might be slightly lower than you might find in more expensive places, but you're certainly not paying 5 star prices. The staff were more than helpful and very friendly. Free breakfast included scrambled eggs, pancakes, cereal, french bread, juice, tea/coffee and hot chocolate. Some free breakfasts are simple cereal and toast and no drink so it's nice to get a good selection. I would definitely stay here again if I visited Bariloche.

Seriously do not use them! You have been warned!!!!

Room Tip: If you want a room when you arrive.... use another hostel!
