“Seven disasters”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

We had to drive this route because we went from San Martin de los Andes to San Carlos de Bariloche. If not it would have been a waste of time, because we had not a good time in watching these Lakes. They were not very special in any way, just some lakes. Seven in a row!

“Lovely scenery”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Beautiful surroundings as others have said. Road works are less, there is now only 20kms of gravel road and they are working on it now. Worthwhile!

“Great road that leads to more beautiful places”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

It's quite amazing how many different shapes and colors lakes and mountains can form. There are many places to explore, to camp nearby, or just have a picnic. The camp sites will let you get inside and spend some time for free, and will offer you any help and information you need.

“Be prepared for roadworks”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

Certainly well worth including in any driving tour but not as spectacular as we were led to believe. A major problem is the fact that most of the route from Villa la Angostura to San Martin de los Andes is a construction site! Apparently it has been in progress for 5 years already and from what we saw it will be at least another 5 to completion. Consequently you are constantly concentrating on avoiding workmen, vehicles, switching lanes, negotiating stones, rocks, streams, etc... and constant DUST! Stopping to take photographs is severely restricted in these parts. No, certainly not one of the most scenic drives in the world by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe in 5+ years time it could be (in Argentina).

“Stunning drive between Villa La Angostura and San Martin”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

If you are driving from Bariloche to San Martin, the main highway north through Junin is the most direct route, but by far they most beautiful and enjoyable drive is turning off to Villa La Angostura, then taking the Seven Lakes route up to San Martin. The government has been working/upgrading this road for several years and it's close to being finished, so actually driving this way is not much longer now. This is a truly gorgeous drive along the base of the Andes, past rivers, lakes, scenic overlooks, stunning vistas. If you want to treat yourself stop at the Hotel Correntoso for lunch, or pack a picnic and stop along side one of the crystal clear rivers or lakes. Don't forget to take a bottle of wine, and if you are an fly-fisher, there are plenty of places to wet a line.
