It has nice ambiance and is also frequented by locals. In summer you can eat out on the sidewalk. Cooks appreciate the tips, they always ring a bell!

At the risk of upsetting pizza loving Argentinians, our group has been less than impressed with the quality of the pizza's we've had in Argentina. Unlike the Italian pizzas, the crusts are thick and doughy, leaving us feeling as though they'd remained permanently attached to our waistline. We had decided to stay clear of Argentinian pizzas, until we walked past this pizza joint in San Martin de los Andes and saw one of their pizza's being devoured by one of their guests. We thought WOW now that looks like a mouth-watering pizza, thin crust, great topping and aroma, and we took note of the sign that said wood-fired. It was too early for lunch, so we kept on walking and looking at other restaurants as we went. When we finally decided we were hungry we were on the other side of town, but after some discussion we decided we'd cross town again to give Pizza Cala a go ... now that was the best decision we'd made all day, besides the one to visit San Martin in the first place, what a great buzzing little town. We order 3 grande pizza's, plus 2 of the ravioli trout specials for the 5 of us. The waitress thought we were over ordering, but in our broken Spanish, we said it's fine, we're hungry. Eventually the owner came out, and asked if we tourists spoke English or German ... yes both we said, and he also reiterated what the waitress had said, that the grande pizza's were big and maybe we'd ordered too much (at around $10 a pizza, we really weren't too worried). How many places encourage you to spend less??? We managed to eat almost everything ... the 3 slices of pizza left over, we took home and polished off in the evening. The pizza's lived up to our expectation, they were absolutely great and the trout ravioli (at 55 pesos a serve) was melt in the mouth delicious, by far and away the best pizza and ravioli we have eaten in our 4 weeks in Argentina, and the owner and staff were so hospitable, we can't speak highly enough of this place ... don't miss it if you are in San Martin, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Pizza Cala for giving us faith that a great pizza can in fact be found in Argentina!!!
