“Great!!”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

This is a really cosy and great little restaurant with excellent local cuisine and friendly staff. If you like local small places and not mainstream, this is the place to be (although you pretty much are this type of person if you are staying in puerto piramides :-) ) I ordered the gambas a la plancha; they are really one of the best dishes I had in Argentina. Simple but taste is amazing!

“nice atmosphere, barely acceptable food”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

We had only one dinner in El Refugio, then on the next day we went to the nearby "Estacion". We think El Refugio has a peculiar atmosphere (e.g. a large checkerboard with huge chess pieces, on one of the tables), but Estacion offers far better food.
More precisely: our Mariscos cazuela contained almost only mussels, in a watery broth; we also had a fish, but its taste was almost "killed" by a strong lemon sauce...maybe other customers' taste is different from ours, or maybe we did not choose the right dishes!

“warm, welcoming and homey”
Reviewed March 4, 2012

like so many restaurants in arg. this place doesn't open until 8pm. being philistine americans who want to eat at 6 we bypassed this place on our first night in piramides. mistake. second night we held on and were well gratified. a laid back, cozy interior was inhabited by a gracious hostess/waitress (aldana, she may also be the owner?) who made us feel immediately welcome. the service was better than argentine average and the food was very good all around. as the evening wore on aldana made sure we had everything we needed and left us with a warm memory of a pleasant evening well spent.
