El Retorno Travellers' Hostel
Reviewed November 29, 2012

Although there's nothing 'great' to say about this hostel, it's reasonably well located and a good place to stay while touring Peninsula Valdes. The hostel staff were helpful with booking a tour for us, but you could see that being nice didn't come naturally to the owner as she managed to put a negative spin on most things, until we were about to leave, where she insisted we write a review online. Not sure if it was because it was very busy, or just the norm, but we felt fairly uncomfortable as soon as we arrived and were told we couldn't do anything in town because it was a long weekend. As we soon found out, nothing was a problem at all and the long weekend had no impact on our stay whatsoever.
If I was to return to Puerto Madryn, I'd try a different hostel.

I recently stayed in El Retorno with a group of students as we were travelling around Argentina. Well located and clean, good facilities. The best thing about the hostel was how kind and helpful Gladys, the owner, was. She speaks excellent English, made several phonecalls for us, advised us on our journeys and could not do enough to help us. Thank you so much Gladys. I highly recommend El Retorno. Tim Williams, Wales

Room Tip: Speak to Gladys, she is so helpful.

We stayed at EL Retorno 2 nights in June 2012. The hostel offers the best price in Puerto Madryn and great value for money. The owners as well as their doughter are really friendly, helpfull and were willing to give us some information about Argentina.
Hostel is in the center, few blocks from the beach.
WIFI works good, kintchen is available and there is a typical breakfast (tee/ coffee, bread with jam).

This hostel is close to the beach and not far from the city centre located.
Our room was not that big but comfortable and the shared bathroom got cleaned on odd times.
The staff is really helpful by organising day trips, when we organised a trip without their help, the owner took offence at this.
Too bad, beside this incident we had a pleasant time at the hostel and we met a lot of nice travellers.

I had 3 nights here in January in a private room/bathroom & was great. Good location - can walk to everywhere. Gladys was great with everything - she was able to organise my transfers & also my Valdes trip.
Would recommend this hostel & would stay again.

This was an odd place, the owner comes over as friendly but it felt like staying in a relatives house, when whatever you are doing, they are there watching you and you can't relax.
The room we felt was overpriced, we stayed in a private double, shared bathroom and there were no extras, the bedside lamp didn't work properly and we didn't have a bin so we were just paying for a bed, although she did make it a couple of times during our stay.
The room was clean and we did sleep well but was nothing special, I would have been happier if I were paying half the price.
The trips booked through the hostel were good but when I first asked the for the name of the tour company she was quick to say that they were good and it was a good price, I think she thought that I was going to try and book elsewhere, when in fact I wanted to check out reviews about the tour company first before committing to any trips.
Breakfast was 5 bread rolls with tea, coffee and juice between 6.50 and 9.15.
We requested a fan as it was hot and were provided with one the next day.

The place is a bit worn. The rooms are somewhat cramped. We were not 100% satisfied about our stay. However, the owner is very friendly and helpful. Note: They were a bit pushy about selling us a tour.
