To get out to Doradillo Beach we negotiated a deal with the taxi company who are in front the bus terminal in Puerto Madryn. This meant we got a private transfer, just over an hour sitting on the beach watching the whales and then a return back to our hotel. We timed this to coincide around high tide. It also allowed us to cruise that part of the coast and in fact our very knowledgeable driver finally settled us on Playas Las Canteras for an amazing show from the whales. They were almost within touching distance and certainly not intimidated by us. They rolled and frolicked and generally lazed around - obviously having a very relaxing time. It was truly a special moment to be that close to such magnificent creatures. Make sure you wrap us warm - the wind made it freezing cold. Also take food & drink - no where to buy anything. Have seen whales before but never from the shoreline. A moment to remember. If you are staying in Puerto Madryn go out on the pier. This will only cost you the effort of walking for yet another magnificent close up view of the whales.
