“Nice town”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

Gaiman is a pretty town with a river in the middle of the desert. It was good to see a river, trees and green grass after a long drive with nothing like that. There is a spectacular tea-house -which became famous after Princess Diana visited it-. It is not for the budget traveller, but you can still walk around its garden and front porch. There are other tea-houses in town, we went to a very nice one opposite a playground.

“Welsh tea”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

We had tea and breads and pastry. More than you can eat, and we took the leftovers with us. Very cordial, but there was nothing else to see in the little town of Gaiman.

“A lovely green oasis amid the arid steppe”

Great little town of Welsh decent. Loads of irrigation channels which make it green and lush with cool park areas to sit and relax.

“Pleasant day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

Very easy & cheap to get Gaiman. Used the 28 Julio bus service out of Puerto Madryn. First bus to Trelew where we stopped for a look round. Second bus dropped us off at the main Gaiman Square. It is a small town so easy to cover the chapels, first house, first secondary school and the now obsolete train tunnel in a few hours. Take a torch as there is a brief moment when due to the curve of the tunnel you cannot see the light at either end. Highlight was the museum whose curator was a mine of information regarding the history of the town and the more modern event of the visit of Lady Diana. It was only a little museum in what was the old train station, but the curators passions for his subject made it a delight. Had the tea in Ty Nain Casa de Te Museo which was very disappointing. Cakes, bread and scones seemed stale and the museum consisted of historical pieces put around around the tea rooms. That said their pot of tea produced a very good cuppa. If you've got the time, combine Trelew & Gaiman for a pleasant day out. Watching a local cycle race between the two towns added to our day out.

“Not for us”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

Don't bother.  The town had very little to recommend it, we stopped off on the way back from Punta Tomba to have a welsh tea, but at prices of between $85-95 per person we decided to skip it for a decent dinner instead.

The town was pretty deserted and whilst it purported to have welsh roots, the most welsh feeling part was a similarity to Newport council estates in some parts of town.  You know that somewhere doesn't have a great deal to offer when the tourist office is pushing a 300m walk down an unlit old railway tunnel as the highlight.

Lots of little chapels if you are in to that sort of thing, but was not for us
