A nice hostel a few blocks from the waterfront which acts as a good base to explore Puerto Madryn.

We stayed in an en-suite double which bordered the road outside, so there was a fair amount of road noise, particularly on the Saturday night.

The hostel had a very pleasant atmosphere and staff who were always willing to help, decent breakfast and on site computers with free Internet and wifi - the Internet was down regularly in the evenings though.

It has a private car park with space for 5 cars on first come first served basis.

Would happily stay there again if we were to return to Puerto Madryn.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from the road

We had a great stay at this hostel, they were extremely friendly and helpfull, booked all our tours and gave other information as well. The rooms were clean, with nice big lockers and the showers were nice and hot. The kitchen was big and had good equipment for cooking. Rainy days were made cozy by the television room and dvd collection. The hostel has great location.

El Gualicho is a very chill and cool place perfect to hang out or read in the patio. You have two hamacs, a nice field to chill and a place to make your laundry old school style !

The rooms are spacious with bathrooms and the staff is very nice. The kitchen is huge and the breakfast is perfect.

The hostel is located within easy walking distance from the bus station and the city center. Grocery store is also very close.
This is a modern hostel in a very nice and newly renovated building. Although it is part of the Hostelling International, this was not one of their typical hostels. It did not have the same cold and impersonal feeling. The shared areas were large, nicely designed and cozy. The entire premises were very clean and well maintained. The staff was hospitable, very informative and helpful. They took their time with me and were not pushy in trying to sell me their tours like the staff in other HI hostels. The hostel had very warm and friendly atmosphere.
There was large, well equipped and clean kitchen with dining area, another large seating area with bar and pool table, large reception area and a decent size TV and computer room. All spaces had many windows making the spaces were very light and airy. There was a courtyard with trees, more seating and hammocks.
My room, a six-bed dorm with private bathroom, was on second floor. It was quiet, clean and cleaned daily. The bed was comfortable, clean with good quality and clean linen, blanket and pillow. It had a window, heater and decent size lockers. The bathroom was large, bright and clean. It was fully tiled with light tiles, and had good shower, WC, sink and bidet.
Wi-Fi and breakfast were good and included in the rate.
The Puerto Madryn town was very nice. However, visiting the Peninsula Valdez was a big disappointment for me. There were only very, very few animals. I believe, it was the wrong time of the year.
From my experience, this was one of the best hostels in South America and the best Hostelling International hostel I have been to. It provides exceptional value. I can certainly recommend it.

We stayed four nights at El Gualicho. We liked the spacious kitchen, the cosy living room and the three very friendly guys at the reception. The common area is probably the best we have seen in a hostel of that kind. They were always there to help their guests. Our room was facing the street which made the whole thing a bit noisy and the window was over eye level which makes the room a bit bunker-like but the room and the attached bathroom were spacious, well equiped and very clean.
Breakfast was a buffet with bread, tostadas, jam, dulce de leche, butter, cornflakes etc. One day we rented two bicycles to do a tour to the Punta Loma, which was very beautiful.
We would definitely stay there again!

Of all the hostels I've stayed In, this is by far the cleanest one I've seen. As it's part of hosteling international it has the same kind of factory feeling as the rest of them. Not a ton of character and the size definitely makes it a bit difficult to meet other travelers. I wouldn't recommend this hostel for solo travelers. The rooms are nice and spacious, the kitchen is huge..one of the nicest I've seen. You'll get a good nights sleep here and the ensuite bathrooms are nice. Hammocks are also a plus.
Location though is just average. There are closer hostels to the center but the proximity to the bus is nice. 6 blocks.
If you stay here you MUST do the tours they offer. Though they might seem a bit overpriced, they are actually quite reasonable and the guides are fantastic. On 4-13 I was told there was a 10% chance of seeing orcas..but we did see them and it was a highlight of my entire trip. Well worth the risk.

Room Tip: 6 bed dorms if you can.

There is no doubt that is the best option to stay in Pto. Madryn. Is very clean, the bedroom are big, the bathroom are really nice and it is very confortable. When I stayed there, I saw a lot of families so I think that is a good option if you are travelling with your family.
