“Absolute must to get a glimpse on Inca culture in the area”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

The MAAM (Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña) is worth visiting in Salta. It is a small, very well documented museum custom built to house the Llullaillaco Children mummies and give a glimpse on Inca culture in the region.
For preservation reasons, only one mummy is in display at any given time.
Lots of artifacts on display, videos on the area and a documentary on the expedition that discovered the mummies. The cute gift shop has a nice variety of handicraft, crafts and art pieces, most locally made.

“Interesting”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

I would say that it´s just interesting. However, it isn´t amazing. Fine, you get to see the best preserved mummies in the world, but that´s just about it. I think there´s should be more guides, more stuff to see. On holiday season, make sure you have time to spare. You´ll find long queues just to get in.

“Top-line of your MUST Go list!”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

The exhibit of the three "Llullaillaco Children" is something you ABSOLUTELY can't miss! The well preserved body is just so astonishing! (even I have seen the mummies in Egypt or in the British Museum!)

MAAM is doing such an excellent job in explaining and demonstrating the Incan culture; and the museum shop has a wide range of quality art pieces and handicraft of the region which you'd fall in love with!

This little museum was so interesting and well explained! I had not seen mummies before and was impressed. A must- see in Salta!

“unique exhibits, well displayed”

Liked the presentation of the unique archaelogical findings. Too many audiovisuals, some of which do not add to the understanding
