We were lucky enough to have our own personal guide and private 4x4 as the main Movitrack vehicle was full, and boy was it worth it; guide Federico had a wealth of information on local wildlife, geography and history and was happy to customise bits of the trip for us to make for a wonderful day. In case you read ths Federico (or his employers!) thanks for a superb day!

Safari to the Clouds with TEA tours .. exellent driver/guide. We stayed overnight in Pumamarca and continued the following day with a different driver to Humahuaca valley which has been declared a Wold heritage site with many Historic Sites, Scenic Drives, Geologic Formations, Ancient Ruins The valley contains numerous archaeological remains of pre-Columbian settlements. . Villages of adobe dwellings, narrow cobblestone streets, archaeological sites, Tropic oCapricorn crossing, churches with amazing pictures from the Cuzco school of art (esp.Uquia), fortresses, cemetaries on the hillside, llama caravans. “What a ride!” Many of the roads are quite rough so bouncing around is the order of the day. It's also a very long day & you are at altitudes up to 14,000 feet at two points so bring some aspirin. This tour really give you a sense of Argentina's "outback" & some of the history of the region before & after the Spanish conquest..

Yes it is less comfortable then a van or a bus, but the big advantage is the 180 deg (sphere) unobstracted view. We participate in a one day trip to Purmamarca. I'm speachless from the unique experience, the unforgoten viewes the uniqu shapes, the desert, the salt lakes and the climexs the desent from 4000m ASL to ~ 2000. This desent present unique views hornpipe cactus trwws, multi colour mountain etc. Strongly recommended.

The early start is worth it but wrap up warm it is cold to start with but soon warms up. The views are amazing and our guide is very good. A glass of champagne at the highest point with a few nibbles was a nice touch. The truck ride was very bumpy but that is part of the fun.
This is a trip not to be missed if you get the chance.

The safari vehicle we took was not in good shape. A broken window had been replaced with a sheet of plastic. The window frame were not adjusted. Leg room between seats was too tight. The ride is quite long, on the order of four hours for the return ride, so comfort does matter. Except when it's not comfortable, of course.
A word of caution: the road for its most part is not paved. The ride is therefore bumpy. We had the misfortune of following another such vehicle down the mountain, so we ended up eating dust most of the way.
Set aside the time, take the train instead. For the difference in price, the quality of the train is a much better buy.
