“Best Tour Ever”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Nick was attentive to our every need - structuring the entire trip to suit us. Every day was interesting with a variety of experiences. Nick is a valuable source of information. The pace of the journey exceptionally comfortable in the 4 wheel drive vehicle in affable company. We have no reservations in recommending Poncho Tours. I was truly wanting to continue on to Tierra del Fuego.

“An amazing trip”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We booked a 5 day trip with Poncho Tours in March 2013, and it was a great experience. Nick worked with us to plan the trip, and was also our tour guide. We started and ended the trip in Salta, making a circuit of the Calchaqui Valley. The scenery was incredible, and we got to taste some delicious and unusual wines, as well as see a part of the world that truly feels off the beaten path. There's no way we could have seen some of the areas we did without a knowledgable guide like Nick driving us; much of the trip was spent driving on remote mountain or desert roads, and we would have gotten hopelessly lost! Nick was very laid-back and accommodating; he gave us a suggested itinerary, but was open to making any changes we wanted based on how we were feeling that day (a tip: bring your sunscreen; the sun is strong in this area!)
Overall, I'd recommend Poncho Tours to anyone planning a trip to this striking part of Argentina.

“Great road trip”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

We travelled with Poncho Tours in November 2012 and I am reminded to write this review as we are just about to book with them again for November 2013.
Firstly Nick gave us lots of suggestions for our self drive road trip from Salta via Cachi to Cafayate including a great place to stay in Cachi. We stayed at their B&B on the night before the trip and got our car delivered there and droppped it off there when we had finished.
The we travelled with Mariano up through the Quebrada de Humhuaca to Tilcara and via Purmamarca all the way to San Pedro to Atacama in Chile.
We had a brilliant time with Mariano who was so much more than a guide - it was like being on holiday with your most knowledgeable friend. He was full of information about everything we did and great fun too noting our interests and abilities and ensuring we were properly acclimatised.
The best recommendation is surely that we are going back to explore again and November can't come soon enough.

“Great experience!”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

We interfaced with Nick to set up a 5-day, 4-night tour in the areas to the north and west of Salta. First, Nick was very responsive to questions and happy to provide advice on all aspects of the area. He was great to work with, and he worked with us to tailor a trip to exactly what we wanted to do. He also provide some great advice on aspects to add to our tour and practically what was feasible (the distances are often not far, but expect to take twice as long to get there relative to what you would expect in the U.S. or Europe... half of the roads were gravel, and they were main roads!). Regardless, we have only great things to say about the initial trip set-up experience. We ended up have Nick as our guide for the trip; he splits the work between himself and several other guides that he knows well.

In the end, we decided to do the Calilegua cloud forest, Quebrada de Humahuaca, Salina Grande, the Abra de Acai (5000 m pass), and the Parque National los Cardones. All of these were spectacular in terms of landscape, and many had cool little towns nearby to explore. The great thing about Poncho Tours is that it is completely personalized and they will cater to what you want to do.

We stayed the night we arrived in Salta at their B&B Poncho Huasi in a small town outside of Salta. It would not be ideal for seeing Salta, but it is great if you get into town late in the day and are leaving on a tour the next day. It was great for that!

Of the places we went, we particularly liked the Calilegua (and the small town of San Francisco), the Abra de Acai, and the Parque National los Cardones. However, all we very interesting and spectacular in their own way.

Service is definitely a high priority for Poncho, as they offered to pick us up from the airport when we arrived. We stayed one extra night in Salta city after our tour ended, and Nick even offered to pick us up and take us to the airport. It was definitely not something we expected, but it was appreciated.

We enjoyed essentially everything about the trip, though realize that some days may involve a significant amount of time in the car depending on the tour. However, they do great job of finding interesting stopping points to do short hikes, have picnics, and otherwise split up the drives.

The recommended lodging options were generally great, and varied from very simple to fairly nice. They are also happy to try to arrange/book the lodging of your choice; definitely helpful for those small places that don't have online booking. We used a combination of their recommendations and reviews on various websites to choose our lodging.

Overall, it was a great trip and I would definitely recommend it for those who are a bit adventurous and want a personalize tour. Thanks Nick!

“Such great memories of a beautiful area”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

Nick organized a thoughtful three-day road trip for me and my friend in April 2013, with Rodrigo as our guide. In addition to being a patient, good-natured guy in general, Rodrigo seemed to know something about everything (geology, food, culture, history, wildlife, the Salta wine industry, the local UFO lore) and added so much to our trip with his commentary as well as his presence. We visited pre-Incan ruins, national parks, a vicuna refuge, museums, and a few wineries in our very full (but not rushed) three days. One of the best trips I have ever taken.
