“Very good restaurant for regional food”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Located near the Plaza 9 de Julio in the historic part of the city. Very good empanadas and regional food. You can also taste the "matambrito" and the "queso de cabra con miel de caña" a regional dessert. Good meal. Good price. No credit cards. Only cash. No music.

“Good, but not as good as I expected”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

The decor is beautiful here and the service was good. The food was decent, but I expected it to be a little better, just based on how the place looked like. Clean bathrooms, wide selection on the menu, and I would try it again. I ordered gnocchi and they were tasty, but didn't seem freshly made. The sauce tasted watery and from a bag.

“Great good, good service, limited menu”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

I was there in August, 2012. I visited the restaurant alone and had no problem getting a table or decent service, which can sometimes be a problem with busy places and solo travelers. The menu largely consisted of empanadas, tamales, and a small collection of typical dishes. I have an assortment of empanadas and tamales, all of which were delicious. As far as I could tell, the thing to have at Dona Salta's is empanadas. Mine were great, and as I stated, the service was good. I suspect, though, that the same meal could've been had cheaper at another location. Certainly, Dona Salta's is not expensive, but it wasn't cheap, either. I ate at a few other restaurants in Salta that were outside the tourist strip and had equally good meals for half the price.... hence, four stars instead of five. Anyway, you won't regret a visit!

“Great for meat lovers, boring for vegetarians”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

Nice decoration and style with a show element (gaucho type waiters), very friendly and helpful service. The traditional goat stew was great, as were the tamales.

Only very few options for vegetarians, for example gnocchi or pasta on tomato sauce. Good Gnocchi but boring watery tomato sauce. Salad was very fresh, but the vinegar and oil sauce is bland, they use a very cheap oil with almost no taste.

The wine by the glass is also not really spectacular, but they have a good choice of bottled wine.

The price for the meal was allright for us who came straight from Buenos Aires - we can't compare with other places in Salta.

“Very nice typical food”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

Like: Service, place, food, specially the rabbit dish. They have a very good number of options in traditional dishes and the waiters are in typical clothes.
Dislike: Tables are very close.
