“Beautiful and great staff!”
Reviewed June 14, 2014 via mobile

I arrived in cafayate planning to stay only for a night- but this place was so beautiful, quiet and relaxing that I stayed two nights. The room was simply but tastefully decorated. It was also spotless. Most importantly, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I had the best attention. The front desk helped me with my reservation at one of the wineries and one morning when I was late for breakfast (about 5 past the time the stop serving), they served me anyway and told me they were waiting for me. All in all, the best experience.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay here on two visits to Salta between travelling north to Purmamarca and south to Cafayate. Villa Vicuna is located one and a half blocks from Iglesia San Francisco and a couple more from Plaza 9 de Julio. There are many fine restaurants in the immediate area, small shops with snacks and bottled water, a great laundry one block south on Alvarado, and artisanal stores of local products nearby.

The hotel has been refurbished in the colonial style with white walls and tile floors leading to a centre courtyard where the first floor rooms are located. Behind the courtyard is an outdoor guest area with a small pool and lounge chairs, amidst beautiful landscaping and shady trees.

We had a standard room that was spacious, well lit, with a desk for computer use, a comfortable bed, a chandelier overhead and bed lights. A large closet with shelving, a safe and a double cupboard, was mirrored on the outside. The large bathroom had a shower with a rainforest shower head, good water pressure and a bowl sink with upscale faucets.

The staff were very friendly, although only one person spoke English. The public areas were being cleaned regularly and the stairs scoured.

A pleasant breakfast room overlooked the street with a variety of cold items and hot coffee. There was some variance in the number of items available, depending on the fullness of the hotel. A fresh fruit salad was among the offerings.

We have no hesitation in recommending this reasonably priced hotel in Salta for a quiet stay in a central downtown area.

Cute hotel in the center of Salta and just a minutes walk from the main square. The pool area is small but nice with a nice relax area. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Staff is friendly. Breakfast is good.

We found this place by accident, and boy we were happy to have stayed here. We arrived at Salta without any hotel reservations. Stayed one night in another hotel but they didn't hava room for the rest of our stay. Walking around the downtown we found it. A beautiful old colonial house, centrally located at 2 blocks fron the main square in a safe area, that was converted into a small 12 room boutique hotel with very modern amenities and touches of old world. There are 4 rooms in the front of the house and a door opens to a charming 2 story courtyard with 6 rooms on each side. At the end of the courtyard you can see a beautiful wrought iron gate to the green backyard. Our room in the second floor had a small balcony that opened to banana trees with banana, in a nicely landscaped backyard with a pond and cabana with comfortable chairs and a huge fireplace. The room was of good size, well appointed with a posted bed, chandelier and sconces with cute shades and hanging shiny crystals. The breakfast was a typical buffet with excellent medialunas, variety of breads, cheese and cold cuts, fruit salad, cold cereal and yogurt. Served in a cozy room with handmade table linens. Toaster available if you want to toast your bread. Breakfast was ready for us when we had early days when going on tours. Linens were new, soft and the bed had a fluffy comforter. The hotel is very nicely decorated. We are definitely coming back to Salta and to La Vicuña! Highly recommend this hotel, very romantic stay! Staff is excellent, very helpful! Being and old house that was renovated, there are no elevators to the second floor, which didn't bother us at all! It added to the charm. The weather was very cold buoutput wcohan control on how warm we wanted the room Sad to leave and planning our next visit to a beautiful city and hotel.

Room Tip: The suites in the back have a balcony.
