“Dirt”

I have stayed in many places bad around the world in India, Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Bolivia. But the difference with these places is that they are cheap. El Andaluz Hostal looks like it has not seen a clean since it was opened. There are coakroaches under the beds, smears all over the walls, some of the rooms are like prison cells and overall it ist plain dirty. Also the hostal itself is full of circus performers, jewellery makers and hippies not a problem but they seem to take over the whole place. There are a lot better places in town like Iquana and Tilian which are around the same price, have better equipped kitchens and actually get cleaned.

Arriving at the hostel we were plesantly surprised, there was a little confusion with the receptionist but she showed us where we could sit and await our desperately needed room (after a 24 hour bus journey!). An hour and a half passed and she returned, to our surprise telling us we needed to go to the sister hostel around the corner. Unfortunately she did not even know the number but eventually we made it. From the outside it looked nothing like a hostel but we were lead through reception past some fairly decent looking rooms......through the outdoor area to a room basically resembling a really uncared for shed. With haysacks for a roof. This is for around seven pounds a night. As soon as we arrived I changed my booking so I could leave early, which they were good about at least,
The kitchen was basically outside, flys all over your dinner. Yum. There was no bar in this hostel as it was in the real one which we had actually booked. Peoples conversation kept me awake pretty much for 48 hours (my entire stay) due to the location of our room. Dead flies hung out on our bedroom walls and there was no communication from the staff.
We met a real nice group of Argentinian girls staying there who told they were paying almost half what we were (and they had a very good room) and we should always make sure we check the rates.
I really hope the ACTUAL hostel is a little more decent than this secondary building which they make no mention of on their webste or hostelbookers. There are loads of places to stay. Dont run the risk of getting stuck here!!
