This is by far the most decent hotel in the State Capital. The staff can handle english speaker guest (in some way but they try at least) and the location of the hotel couldn't be better just in front of the main square of the city.

The food outlets are very good and you would probably won't have a better meal in the city. The prices are a little steep for the province but they are reasonable at a national level. Don't expect a great decor or an outstanding architecture. Its not modern, its not trendy but its by far the best you would get here.

The hotel gets a good mark mainly because you are out of choices the moment you come to this city. I would only stay here plus the staff its really really nice.

Because of IT problem with Aerolineas Argentinas we were forced to spend a long afternoon in the capital of the province of the same name. We had to take a 14 hour bus ride back to Buenos Aires.
had a cup of tea at the hotel, quite ordinary and looking dated.
The town may be 470 years old but they have failed to modernise the cathedral and the main square looks bare. I'd call Santiago a city of cables; all over the place telephone and electricity cables hang from buildings in interminable knots. The outside of the cathedral was poorly mantained as it was almost everything else.
The best building was the bus terminal. It's a pity as this town, with a coat of paint and some TLC could look lovely.
Small wonder we didn't spot a single tourist in the five hours we spent there. A truly provincial town everything g closes for siesta, so you can't do anything useful until 5:30 pm when shops start to open. We will not be coming back soon.

Carlos V is certainly an average hotel. Deco is dated, carpets look tatty, appliances are old, beds are a bit shabby, yes. All that gives an obvious sense of uncleanness that is not truly fair. On the other hand service is surprisingly amicable and its central location is absolutely convenient. I would say Carlos V is a good hotel if you are a commercial traveller, but a quite disappointing one if you are a tourist... To sum it up, let me point out some pros and cons:
Pros: central location (meters away from the city centre), very good internet access, clean sheets and fresh towels, parking space included, there is not a wide range of hotels to pick from in the city.
Cons: looks unclean (even when is not), morning coffee is absolutely dreadful! and breakfast is somehow below standards.

Room Tip: ask for the top floor rooms as they usually use the ground floor for conventions and parties and mig...

This was my second stay at the Carlos V, and I would stay there again because there aren't really a lot of similar options in Santiago del Estero. It's above average for "the interior" of Argentina, but I agree with previous reviewers: some of the the beds are saggy and should be replaced, and the carpets could use cleaning. Otherwise, everything is quite clean and comfortable, including the bathroom, and there are plenty of hangers. The room safe is a good size and easy to use. The air conditioning (a necessity in summer) works fine, but there was a piece missing from it and no remote control so the air just blew straight out all the time with no way to adjust the temperature. The hotel has free wi fi on all floors, but it worked in the room only the first day I was there. I didn't use the gym, spa or pool, but it looked clean and well maintained. The hotel staff are all wonderfully hospitable, and they even have a service desk at the airport with free airport transfers. Breakfast is so so: fresh orange juice but no fresh fruit. Decent coffee. The location right on the Plaza can't be beat, but be careful crossing the street! The drivers are even more aggressive than Buenos Aires!

Room Tip: Corner rooms on the plaza are spacious but get the afternoon sun and tend to get toasty.

Hotel is a bit dated, carpets in the rooms are not the cleanest. Otherwise cleanliness was satisfactory. Staff was friendly, facilities good. The only real problem was the bed: quite old and hammock-like.

This hotel just seems like it belongs in a much larger city. Santiago del Estero is a lovely but small town, so this excellent hotel just seems almost "too much" for the town. Anyhow, the rooms were very comfortable, with a huge plasma tv and all, the restaurant was excellent, and the pub seemed like the place to spend the evening. There is also a very nice indoor pool and fitness center as well as a casino. The location is also tough to beat, right on the main square near the cathedral, a block from the pedestrian-only shopping streets, and a block and a half from the theater.

Santiago del Estero is a lovely little city..blessed with the luxurious Carlo V hotel. I had an assigned large corner room overlooking the main plaza with 2 single beds (you might want to be more specific about your bed requirements if snuggling into a twin-sized bed doesn't work for you), a lovely little terrace, and a very beautiful bathroom.

It's is centrally located, anchoring one corner across from the town's main plaza. The hotel has a nice bar area..... service was great... even the middle of the night, post rock concert, room service was impeccable.

I recommend a visit to All Music while you are there.. a small CD store within a few blocks of the hotel.. the prices there are much better than in Buenos Aires.. and the staff knowledgable and very friendly.. and they made an extraordinary effort to overcome my horrible spanish (once they figured out what I liked, they just started pulling cds out and putting them on the store's main stereo system so that I could hear them)... I left with a stack of 20 or so CDs...

Chester's Pub is a great place for a late night drink... one of those great bars that you wish were wherever you are (and if you're looking to treat someone special.. ask for the champagne served with cherries...).
