“Great cabin, beautiful views”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

Our cabin at Cerro Chico was sweet and private with incredible views across the valley to the red mountains on the other side. We were in Quebrada de Humahuaca for three days and this was a great location to stay at during our visit - easy to get south to Purmamarca and to see the salt flats at Salinas Grandes and easy to get north to see the rest of the quebrada. Nour was an enthusiastic host, providing recommendations, directions to sites in the area, and arranging a morning tour for several guests to a nearby rock formation. Internet was not available in our cabin, but the wifi connection at the small building at the entrance to the inn was the best we had on our trip.

We booked for two nights but eventually stayed for four because the location, the view, the cabanas and the quietness were simply amazing. On top of that came two wonderful people, Nourredine and Evelyne, who had really amazing tips regarding the area and interesting stories to tell. We really would have stayed longer if we wouldn't have had to catch our flight.

Room Tip: We had cabana six. It has an amazing view of the valley.

Don't try to find this place after dark! It is set on the hillside behind the town of Tilcara and the view from the rooms is stunning, especially in the morning. However, once you turn into town off the highway, you must drive a couple of kilometres over some very rough unpaved road with little signage. There are only 7 units and they are all quaint. The owner is quite eccentric, knowledgeable and very eager to suggest how you should spend your time while in the area. He made excellent suggestions for restaurants we should try and accompanied us to dinner on the first night! He offers a barbequed dinner at his hotel, but you need to give warning if you would like to partake, and the food in town was extremely good. Breakfast was fairly basic, but the room rates are very reasonable.

This place really is something special! We we're looking for a place to stay north of Salta, which turned out to be very difficult, as it was holiday month in Argentina. Looking at Cerro Chico's website, we liked it very much and sent an email to ask if there was vacancy for one night.

The reply came very fast and the way Nour replied convinced us to stay for 2 nights. Later we regretted a bit that we didn't stay longer...

The place is absolutely beautiful! Placed on a hill with amazing views (especially in the morning when the sun comes up), and the cabins are just perfect. Every detail is great, good beds, nice fireplace and everything spotless. But most of all, there's an amazing relaxed vibe here.

Also, Nour is a wonderful guy. Very hospitable and always ready to help. When our rental car broke down during a trip, we called him for advice and he really went out of his way to help us by contacting the rental company and other things. Truly amazing!

Really, if you want to stay anywhere near Salta, this is the place to go to, when you like a relaxed, beautiful place off the beaten path. It's one of the best places we ever stayed. Highly recommended!

My daughter and I stayed here when we visited the Jujuy region. After a slightly difficult journey in a hire car (stopped by the police twice on route to Cerro Chico because of a headlamp problem), we were made to feel relaxed and at home immediately. Nour took control of the car problem (after feeding the zorritos of course). The accommodation was lovely - simply decorated, spacious and comfortable. Good breakfasts. Nour was really informative about the local area and places to visit. We had a great time here. Thank you, Nour from Suzie and her Mum x

On our trip to the north of argentine we spent 3 nights at the private little houses on the hill of Tilcara.
Nourdine was a wonderfull host and the staff was very nice. The architecture of the cabanas and the big house is fenomenal. Everything superclean and the food (BBQ) fantastic. It's like paradise.
The area is great for daytrips.

The only downpoint I can think of is the 2km dirtroad from tilcara town to paradise. You can do it with a small car, its not a pleasant ride but it's sure worth it...

We stayed in November 2012 at Cerro Chico in Tilcara. It is a beautiful place just outside of Tilcara. A rental car is recommendable to get out there, but a taxi should work, too. It is too far to walk from town at night, but it pays off when you sit outside on your own little terrace and enjoy the landscape. Nour, the host, is a very lovely French guy who helps whenever he can.
Cerro Chico has a nice little pool, beach chairs on every terrace and the view is just stunning.
The price is very decent, I can only recommend this place! Oh and yes, there are llamas on the property which you can feed. I loved it.
