“Lots of potential....but”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

This hotel is well located at the top of a hill with beautiful gardens. Our room was quite small with the standard small Argentinian double bed but was very comfortable. The bathroom was very good. Everything is well well furnished.

But...our welcome wasn't great and breakfast was really rather poor - just a piece of bread and some jam served by a woman who may have been the owner but we never found out because she didn't talk to us. Now we don't really speak Spanish and she didn't speak English but we usually manage to communicate.

We planned to stay 2 days and ended up staying a full week. This says all. Beautiful house, beautiful garden, with a nice family suite if you are traveling with kids. Perfect location, apart from the fact that Tilcara as such is a great place.

...but I cannot recommend any. Although the location of this place is fine, only a 10 minute walk from the main drag, our stay was marred by being assigned a below standard room with only a tiny double bed. And plenty of mossies to annoy us all night. But that would have been only an annoyance if we had not been more annoyed by having to learn how to traverse the maze to get to our room. [We were given three keys which needed to be used in sequence in three doors to reach our room and at midnight it simply didn't work.]

The breakfast was basically coffee and bread leaving us aching for some protein. To top off the experience, the final charge was not only more than we had been verbally quoted but about $10 per night more than the published rate. Too small to fight over so we never mention it figuring it was basically a holiday weekend upcharge.

I stayed several times in La Quinta during my trips to Tilcara and would highlight several observations that make this place uniquely beautiful: 1) The house is absolutely beautiful, special, and makes you feel that you are indeed in another region of the world, far away from typical US hotels "a la Hilton"; every single detail has been restored in this old house to bring you back hundreds of years. 2) The garden is just marvelous, and spending a late afternoon drinking tea and eating their delicious cakes while reading a book pays for the trip; 3) Location is unmatched, within walking distance to every place of interest including the Pucara and the central square. 4) service and cleanliness are excellent. I strongly recommend it.

This place was a real highlight of our trip. Basically, this place is awesome, almost ludicrously good value for money and a real find. You can't tell from the photos just how nice (and special) this place is.
Totally charming, thick-walled, beautifully restored very old buildings, where every detail has been thought through impeccably by the architect owners. Every nook and cranny is just beautiful. The prettiness and tranquility of the gardens is impossible to see in the photos here. At the same time, it's close to the centre of Tilcara, on a lovely road, and I'd urge you to take location in Tilcara into account, as it's a lovely little town you want to stay IN not outside of. The comfort and quality of the decor easily keeps pace with far more expensive accommodation we stayed in later during our trip. I'd recommend this place to anyone - whether used to 5* accommodation or looking for somewhere affordable, because it is rather delightfully both. Oh yes, and breakfast: It's the classic Argentinian breakfast, don't expect an English fry-up, the medialunas are fresh, the fruit salad and coffee are great. I'm sending more friends and family here for the perfect Andes retreat.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the pretty en-suite rooms, with a friend in room 1 and another in room 3. The ow...

We got a recommendation from our hotel in Salta for this place and it did not disappoint at all. It is a small posada and you feel like your staying in someone's house. The room was tiny but comfortable and it wasa relief not to hear doors slam. Finally some peace and quiet. You can walk easily to all the restaurants in this little place. Breakfast is good but simple, garden great for chilling and Lili was a nice host. Lovely and quiet stay!
